What's the tape on?
Usually rubbing alcohol works, but it may have adverse effects on paint and plastic.

I don't like to rub.Can you give me a tape residue remover that I can buy locally and would work on a lightsaber? It better be high quality.

Goo-Gone is an excellent tape residue remover....I use it to remove the sticky stuff left by price tags on my Star Wars action figure packages.

I personally use zippo lighter fluid.
works better then rubing alcohol and is locally available.

Goofing off and Lighter fluid is not a good combo.

D'oh.
you could also try one, then the other. Mixing fluids is rarely a good idea, particularly if they can burn.

Try using a wax remover that is usally less damaging than other solvents and also try using a blow dryer on the tape before removing it next time.

Goo Gone or Goof Off are basically Orange Oil. They won't hurt anything that we use them for. Pick them up at the local home improvement store or Wally World.
