Any suggestions on how to make my DM1 hilt duller? It is very shiny and I want to subdue it a little without making it look weathered.

Matte clear spray paint might do the job. Sandpaper definitely will, though it'll take some work to get the finish you're looking for.
Rub it down with a green or red ScotchBright pad. Don't apply to much force but just give it a light sanding.

0000 steel wool or a scotch brite pad will work. As was said above light pressure until you get the desired sheen.

I would probably use one of the sanding suggestions above, but if you're lazy you could etch the whole surface. It really depends on how dull you want it.

Assuming the aluminum is clean and not coated, vinegar will lightly etch the surface. You can rinse and repeat to get your desired result.

Steel wool is having no effect, will attempt the scotchbright pad
