View Full Version : DC's Humble Little "Workshop"

After tweaking my back and neck and generally being completely uncomfortable using a drill press on the floor and doing other things on a coffee table I decided to upgrade my "workshop."

Phase 1 was a tool cabinet and drill press table. The instructions were very clear and it only took about 1.5 hrs to assemble. Has a solid wood top, all steel construction, 5" casters. Came virtually unscathed... only a few bends on some of the tabs which were easy enough to coax back into place and a little ding in the table top.

Here it is tucked in a corner with some suits, gargoyles, a rubix cube and hockey equipment. Haha what an eclectic mix. I have a little nook it will fit in nicely so I am going to attempt to slide its 100 lb. fat rear end down my steps tomorrow.

Phase 2, and final phase, will be here Thursday. I'll update with a nice pic of that.

Anyway, I like seeing other peoples work spaces so I thought I'd share mine.

Nice! I should titch the mostly useless too bin I have and pick up something like this. This would be perfect for the spot I've got and the storage would be way more useful. Now I'm debating if I should try to find something to suit my needs or just build it. My inclination is to build it.

So, that's where the magic happens ;). Love the set up DC but I feel spoilt now as I have a garage /workshop and you're in an apartment turning out beautiful sabers one after another.

If you have the space and tools, definitely build it.

Thanks man. I do wish I had a larger dedicated space. I feel like I could do a lot more. Maybe some day.

I literally only recognize that toolbox/table because I assembled two of them for my dad. And two tables from the same company. Pain in the rear to build but so good...

Station looks good. Beats the heck outta what I'm using.

Nice. I've been trying to reorganize my garage to make room for a decent workspace.

I didn't find it too bad to assemble. It is a lot of work though. What table does your dad have? Is it the one with the peg board? Thats what I have coming on Thursday.

No he has the ones that have that same smooth tabletop and the silver metal frame. I mean yeah the assembly is SUPER worth it but man I hate allen wrenches. I hate them so much...

Good stuff DC.
I'd post pics of my workspace, but a dining room is a dining room =) My wife and I are both pretty crafty people, and she lets me keep my drill press ( the same exact one ) right there by the dining room table.
A dedicated workshop would be great though, man I'd love to upgrade.

Very nice. I work on my desk (just soldering and small stuff) so you know, I don't have anything nearly as special :P

It was definitely time for a change. When I say working on the floor, I mean literally working on the floor in a dark corner. My old bones couldn't take it anymore.

And, this way I may be able to actually drill a straight hole finally ;)

I have three space I do my work in depending on the work needed to be done. If it is soldering work, I now have a small portable station that I use at my dining room table. If i need to do some "machining" then I go under my house to my "workshop/crawl space". The entire back half of my house is about 7' 6" tall so plenty of room without fear of banging my head on floor joists. Last location is my place of work. We have a industrial drill press, grinder/sander and band-saw; plus ESD safe soldering stations with viewing scopes and multi-meters. I am doing more at home though than after hours.
I too am a little jealous of your setup DC. I could really use a dedicated space so I don't have to pack up tools and materials every time I got some saber-ing stuff to knock out. Part bins

And phase 2, the final phase. Had a little delay because of snow but here it is. Its pretty nice. I was surprised by how sturdy it is. I actually had to climb up on it to put the top shelf on and it felt nice and solid. It came with the LED overhead light, a power strip with 2 USB ports included and the set of hooks. I've yet to load up all my tools obviously... I am thinking I am probably going to need more hooks.

And of course I have Master Skywalker watching over my work.

I've been eyeing it for quite a while and was holding off because of price. It is usually listed at $230+ all over the place. I was lucky enough to find it on walmart.com for $199 so I went for it. It's part of Seville Classics Ultra HD line.

Totally jealous. I've started threatening the lady that I'm moving back to Jersey City so I can afford to have room for a second bedroom/workshop. Our living room doubles as our home office, and my desk doubles as my work bench. The surface is basically a pile of electronics, tools, paperwork, and keyboards. The shelves are full of parts for projects (saber and otherwise), and catalogs and samples for work. I can never decide which side of the desk I prefer to have my soldering station on. It seems to be the most out of the way on the left, but since I'm right handed that means I'm often dragging cable across the desk. Since I built my desk from scratch, I've been customizing it ever few months for about 10 years now. My latest and possibly most useful addition is an articulating desk lamp. Maybe if I'll take a shot of it later tonight.
