So I'd like to create a shinethrough glass eye by popping out the rubbery bit and drilling a hole and then readhereing the "glass" to the ring. One problem though. The adhesive. I can't use super glue because it leaves behind a weird white film. Can't use contact cement cause tht leaves a weird yellow film. Can I use normal elmer's glue?

E6000 might work. It dries clear and sticks to glass and metal.

I've used E6000 for potting and it cures very clear. The other advantage, as listed on the E6000 packaging, is that since it isn't rock hard it can actually be more secure for some uses since it won't crack. Clear epoxy may also be to your liking, again I would test it to make sure it meets your qualifications.
