Hi there,
I cannot for the life of me find an 18650 battery with a jst connector ( essentially an 18650 with both terminals out the one end for wring purposes.

So i was thinking of making my own, is it advisable to go soldering wires directly to the battery? i mean, these things are renown for exploding under heat.
How are JST connectors usually attached?

Thanks

They are available in the store

Edit: that doesn't help. I just realised you're down under

Shipping to li-ions to Australia is tricky right now.

Yes, you can solder wires directly to the battery. See here: http://forums.thecustomsabershop.com/showthread.php?12829-Li-Ion-Battery-Packs

The important points to remember: Use a hotter iron, since hot irons do the job faster without heating up the battery. Lightly scratch up the battery terminals with a file to increase surface area for solder to adhere. Flux is recommended. Don't leave your iron on the battery too long. Heat shrink the exposed wires and terminals afterwards.

A safer method it to try and find an 18650 or 18500 with pre-attaced soldering tabs.
