Card orientation and soldering preference?

I have a Prizm v4, 18650 battery,and acrylic chassis disks.

The manual shows the board with the components on "top" - that is, they are facing away from the battery. However, it seems the SD card is easier to get to if the board is positioned with the SD card on top (top of board face the battery). Does it matter which directions the board is placed?

Also, for soldering - does it matter (or is there a preference) if the wires are soldered to the top or bottom of the board?

I've seen people do both, I assume it's fine either way. I always have the sd card on top for EZ access and wires on top as it sits. :)
