for those of you who have lathes. Is it possible to cut 1/4 inch rings out of an sink tube using the lathe, they need to be as perfectlys straight as possible so that is why I think a lathe would work best. what do ya think?

you could stick your sink tube on a section of dowel of your inner diameter thickness use tape if necessary and then pull out your pipe cutter

ya i know but I want them to be pretty precise. I want to add them to my ribbed section between the o-rings. plus only being 1/4 inch wide leaves little room for mistake.

Simple answer is yes. You could use a parting off tool to trim off your sections. Personally though I hate parting off tools at the best of times and with the thin material of a sink tube im sure it would be a pain to do.

Personally when I make these types of rings I use my chop saw and a stop to rough cut them to just above the required length. I then stick them on the lathe and trim the facing sides on both ends to the required finished length. Its quite quick to do and also easy.

well since I have neither a chop saw or lathe. I also need 16 1/4 inch brass bands (rings)

How about real copper tubing. Would it roll as bad with a pipe cutter?
