Hi all, I'm building my first lightsaber and also I have nearly zero experience soldering (only time I've soldered is to replace a speaker on a GCS lightsaber I have, so I've soldered literally only 2 connections before this). Can anybody take a look at my LED .. should I redo my soldering or do they look OK?

They hold up to light tugging no problem but they don't look very pretty! Any advice or suggestions is apprecatied!

They're not pretty but not bad. Doesn't look like there are any unintended connections or cold joints. Your leads on the blue and greens wires are a little long and uncovered at a slight stress point. The color coding seems backwards to me. In the exception of a Prizm board, which shares a common +, I would have done the +'s color coded and the negatives one color. Last, my eyes aren't great so I can't tell, but is that solid core or stranded wire?

Some of those wires are a bit long, but it looks functional. That's a decent enough job considering it's your first time soldering.

A bit of advice: If you have to re-do any of those connections, you'll NEED to remove the LED star from the heatsink. And you'll have to replace the thermal pad afterwards.

.......and that's why I always recommend buying two ;)

Thanks for the advice everyone! I suppose I'll leave it on as is and redo it if it does end up becoming a problem. I gave it a few more harder tugs and the wires stayed put so hopefully all will be good.

@darth_chasm, those are stranded wires (not solid core) it is the 26 gauge wire from TCSS

I've also bought quite a bunch of the thermal tape so I have plenty if I need to remove it...I was watching Rob's (mad cow) videos on how to build various parts of the saber and I do remember he suggested to buy multiples just in case! Good thing I listened to his advice!

As for the color coding, it is for the Prizm 3.5 soundboard so I just followed the manual wiring diagram to have the +s all shared, while the -s are color coded (and also resistored on the -'s)

Cool. The leds are probably the hardest things to solder, but it gets easier with practice. I pre-tin the wires and the pads on the star first, then pre-tin my iron tip. This seems to help a lot. For me anyway. Good luck on the rest of your build.
