I'm getting started on my first lightsaber, and I ordered a cree star (royal blue) led to be used with a NB2 sound card. I haven't gotten the parts in yet so I can't do any data collection. Will a 4.7 ohm 0.5 watt resistor be enough for a simple system like this, or should I order a stronger resistor?

Assuming you're using a 3.7V battery, that would be a much stronger resistor than you need. I suggest you take a look at this thread. (http://forums.thecustomsabershop.com/showthread.php?17109-Tutorial-FJK-s-quot-Down-and-Dirty-quot-guide-to-Ohm-s-Law)

Unless that's a typo and you meant .47ohm

It was a typo. The resistor I'm looking at is a 0.47 ohm. As for the link, how would I find the forward voltage of my led?

It's listed in the specifications of the LED in the store. (or you can look up the XP-E2 color datasheet) it's 3.41vf @ 1A
