Well I started by gutting a Maul FX saber and using a 3 watt green led, and by trimming a few things This Is what I got so far. Hope this is enough pics for you guys, when I get the parts will put up more.
This one is whith all the electronics hooked up. I used all the stock Maul parts
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i259/vortextwist/light%20saber%20pics/IM000066.jpg

All I did here was flip the battery pins around and glue it so it don't move, also flipped the sound board over and screwed it on.
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i259/vortextwist/light%20saber%20pics/IM000063.jpg

here I cut off the little triange thingy so I could line up the battery inside the hilt. Took a little trimming but it worked. Got a little careless with the knife.
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i259/vortextwist/light%20saber%20pics/IM000064.jpg

here is the battery and board with switch inside the ribbed section (I wanted to use the existing Maul switch so I filed off enough plastic so it would fit snuggly.
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i259/vortextwist/light%20saber%20pics/IM000070.jpg

Here I used an old film tube and cut and wraped it with electrical tape so it would be snug insite the female end of the ribbed seciton (Don't need to shave the battery pack down if your gonna use it like this but I thought I was gonna put it into the ribbed section) and I am gonna hold it in with the Luke Pommel.
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i259/vortextwist/light%20saber%20pics/IM000067.jpg

http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i259/vortextwist/light%20saber%20pics/IM000069.jpg

Here is with it petty much where it needs to be, I still have to order my blade holder #4, or #5,8 (still deciding) and the double female end 3 inch extention to go between the ribbed sections, and drill a hole for the switch.
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i259/vortextwist/light%20saber%20pics/IM000068.jpg

http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i259/vortextwist/light%20saber%20pics/IM000070.jpg
Here it is all done with a 3 watt royal blue and 36 inch blade.

...wait...you actually took apart a maul fx? Damn! Wish I could afford to do that. Ive been saving up money just to buy a maul. (to eventually convert).

I dont know what you did with the maul hilt casings but if you get one of tims luke sound boards and some new guts you could fashion yourself a pretty cool clan saber.

Ya I got it all for less than tim wants for a sound card, I tried to take the maul hilt apart but they put some kind of glue on it and is pretty stuck.

OK, lets not get too out of hand on this Topic. This s a personal Topic about VT's saber.

I'm just saying that he's putting a lot of hard work, effort, and pride into it.

Lets not derail it with out his permission.

I, for one, can't wait to see how this one turns out. This is an interesting and unconventional use of parts. Glad to see designs out of the normal way of things.

Keep the photos coming!

well I will have measure wher to put the hole and drill a hole. there is a crew that holds it on. I put it back on so my kids would not lose it for me. I also had to file some plactic abit so it would slide into the ribbed section. I wanted to use the original maul switch becouse I liked how you had to turn it to make it come on.

personally, i think you need claws on it to balance it out. the luke pommel is the only thing that is bigger and stands out on the hilt. i think claws would make it look more balanced but that is just my .02cents

Thanks Maul. it's just about 13 inches.
ya I wasn't sure what else it needed. I did contemplate using Claws (was my first Idea) but wanted to wait till I got the majority of it done. I'm goin to get some of those red O-rings tim has and put on to. I was hoping maybe tim could maching me a claw mount that would hold 4 claws to be symetrical with the emitter slots. I did some wet sanding on my hilt. I started with 1000 grit and then went to 1500 and then a little polishing. I think I should have started with the 800 first. I still may take it apart again and start over. I used this to do the sanding on my drill. only took like 3 min with each grit.

Well I got some brass pieces completed today, I couldn't find anymore brass sinktube so I had to get a chrome one and sand it down. The end pieces are the ones I did today. The end pieces still need to tarnish like the middle becouse I gave them another sanding to get rid of the marker spots. I'm runnin an ani board with 4.8V running to a lux3 royal blue. Ultra's film and tims blade.

I'm sure there were brass saber builders before us, but thanks. Ready to hear something out of character for me? I've begun work on designing a NON-BRASS saber. GASP!

Probably traditional black and silver. Maybe carbon fiber sorta like one of Ace's, but with a whole different look. It will house the newest Plecter Labs V2.5 board.

I actually have seen brass used in sabers a few years ago, but I got really inspired by your's and the one Jonitus built. That, and the sale on the polished brass tailpieces at Menard's.... :D

Vortex, I believe my saw was on sale at Sear's for about $100 when my wife bought it for me for Christmas a few years ago. You can buy a cheap compound miter saw at Sear's, Menard's or Lowe's just watch their sale flyers. The blade I used to cut my shroud with was less than $3 at Menard's, as well.

Yeah iam pressuring him to get a mini drill press.

My friend Zhi-Don, who posts here occasionally, just got one. I used it last week to drill a few holes in an MHS saber (for the Covertec knob screw and the blade retention screw) I was putting together for a friend. It was wonderful. http://www.thesmilies.com/smilies/love0001.gif

I don't ever want to try to hand drill holes again! I forgot how much I missed using a drill press. Don got his for just $50, and it does a nice job. :)

As tedious as it may sound to some there are ways to take it off with a sanding wheel that VT found.

Jay-gon Jinn

That Do-It Center Hardware store where I get parts sometimes, always has a few of the 1.5 x 6" brass extensions with threads on one end in stock. They aren't chromed, and are in non-polished form. The last time I was there, they had a price of $4.59 on them.

Hasid Lafre
