Hi, I'm thinking about making a combination lightsaber/laser pointer using a rotary switch to select the mode. So the modes would go off/laser/color1/color2/.. and so on, with a momentary switch for laser/blade on/off, was thinking of using a ring star led mount like this one (http://www.ledsupply.com/leds/cree-xpe2-rgb-high-power-led), but I'm not sure about what brightness leds are really required. I'm pretty greedy feature wise, so I wanted to be able to change the blade color, and also be able to have flash on crash, while also being able to have a nice study and stylish laser pointer while I'm teaching. Essentially I was thinking that I would using a ring mount so I could align the pointer diode to lase through the central hole, with drilled and sanded optics and a custom heatsink to mount the diode flush. Is this the best ring mount to use or does anyone know of a better one for my application?

I believe the regular Tri-Cree star in the store (http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/RedGreenRoyal-Blue-Cree-XP-E2-CopperNova-P1016.aspx) would work just as well for what you are proposing as it appears to have the central hole as well. You'd just need to alter the Lens and Heatsink appropriately to add the laser diode in the middle. Besides figuring that all out, your setup definitely seems simple enough with the rotary switch to change to the laser and back again.
