And so it begins...

All of my parts have arrived and its time to make what is in my head a reality.

I had originally planned to just do a stunt saber, but the NB became available again, and that changed my plans. Overall going for a Grey/Dark Jedi look with a orange blade and weathered hilt.

Here are the hilt parts:
12072

I have all of the internals as well and will be building a chassis system.

Internals will be:
3.7v battery
NBv2
PEX
Custom tri-CREE A/rO/G
Orange ring 16mm AV
Charge port
Bass speaker
Acrylic chassis discs, aluminum spacers and other wiring components

Goal is to have an orange blade (Amber and Red Orange mix) with Green FOC

I will be aging the brass and aluminum black weathering the hilt, and likely adding shatter and battle damage effects as well.

I will chronicle each step in the process here.

Thank you to all that answered my questions leading up to this point!

Wow, the brass came out great! What was the exact process you used?

Thank you.

I cleaned each piece in denatured alcohol then dried it. Then I ran wire through the parties and secured it through holes I drilled in the can lid.
Next, I prepared a small empty painters can with paper towels on the bottom soaked in ammonia. Keep this fairly shallow as you do not want liquid touching the brass.

I placed the lid on with the parts hanging inside and checked every 30 min till it was where I wanted it. This took about 2 hours.

I learned something today! :)

Hilt done!

I practiced the shatter on a spare aluminum pipe, then went for it. I cleaned it all up, and hit the whole thing with aluminum black. Then I removed most if the AB, and sealed it all with flat clear.

Now to work on the innards!

That looks great.

Dremel? If so, what attachment did you use? I'm sure people will be interested to know.

Thanks!!

The bulk was done by the largest engraving bit in the engraving kit, with a little touch up with the next smaller one.

Very cool. Great job.

Weathering looks good too. I love AB. I used it on my first saber.

Starting to get my chassis laid out. The battery has the ability to slide a little here, so I need to figure a way to secure it. Also, I need to Dremel a small channel in the discs for the speaker wires.

Also, where are folks securing the PEX?

PEX can be secured to the battery with double sided foam tape.

Perfect, I'll give that a shot.

On the engraving bit part, I forgot to add that I used the Dremel extension so that I was only holding something the size of a marker. This would be VERY hard to do holding the full Dremel.

I was spacing on what it was called, but yep that's it.

Nice blade plug. Electric razor head plus brass thumb screw?

Nice blade plug. Electric razor head plus brass thumb screw?

I picked it up on Etsy and cut it to size. It is a razor cover and a fancy brass nut, with a brass screw holding it in place.

Wiring...

Much harder than I anticipated due to the small size of everything. Once this is buttoned up I'll get some good pics of the whole thing.

Done.

I'll start a completed build thread as well. This has been very challenging, and now rewarding project!
