Is it possible to do a conversion on Luke 05 ROTJ saber without the blade holder kit?

I'm wanting to convert my 2005 Luke ROTJ, mainly just so it has a removable blade, I don't plan on doing any actual dueling/striking with it (display purposes only). I also want to make the blade removable since the stock blade I have now has a ding in it so I'd like to at least replace the blade. Is it possible to just add the LED/heatsink into the plastic casing and do it that way without the blade holder?

you can convert it with the original blade holder you'll just have to make a led housing like this...

Thanks! I'm holding out hoping the conversion kit will pop back up soon on the shop :) Just want to get to converting before TFA comes out!
