I just had to play with my new heatsinks so I mocked up a LED blade holder for a 1.25" sink tube. I dont always make prototypes so here is your chance to give input before I make a batch of them. Ignore the 4 button head screws holding the heatsink in place. They would be recessed 8-32 set screws normally.

Tim, I am assuming that the back of the blade holder will seat the optics the same as the MHS setup right?
Will the heat sink mount holes already be drilled and tapped?
Will the blade holder screw hole and pipe mount holes be pre-done as well?
I would prefer it to be a drill and tap option for the blade holder and pipe mount personally.

Great one to have.

The LED/lens are held in place like the MHS. I plan to have all holes shown pre-drilled and tapped.

so now that this SWEET heatsink is done will you be workin on the conversion kits?

that is really nice. Makes me want to do a sink tube saber

This is fantastic! I have been waiting patiently for a 1.25" sinktube LED solution, and as usual, Tim comes through. This is gonna be great for a whole new batch of designs, a more accurate Yoda LED saber, sabers for children, etc.

Can't wait. Good job, Tim!

Yeah, something like that would be amazing. You should certainly stock it in the store.

If you made it for a 1.5" tube I would buy a couple.

???

What?

Dude, you can buy any of the MHS LED emitters and the MHS sink tube adapter for a 1.5" sinktube. Have you not perused the shop enough?

Yes I have but for the sabers I am currently working on it really isn't piratical to do the blade holder and an adapter. Example one is a youngling hilt in the yoda size and style using a 1.5" tube that is 6" long. The blade holder in this one needs to be inside this tube and not really stick out at all. I know all about the adapter and regular blade holder.

I don't see a 1.5" version of this helping. You'd actually lose more usable space with this one.

The walls of the adapter aren't stopping you from using the space inside. It only takes like 1/2" past the LED. This takes 1"... so the benefits are marginal.

The MHS parts can be turned down to fit inside the sinktube instead of sticking out of it.

Almost all of the MHS blade holder's will slide right into a sink tube. Using a design like this for a 1.5" tube will probably be done to lower price but like xwing said I dont see it saving any space. If space is the issue shortening the amount of blade holder is pretty much the only choice.

I'm not trying to be a total cheap skate but basically what I was meaning is that when you have a sink tube that costs $2 and a length of PVC on the outside of it that by length cost $0.50, spending $30 for the blade holder and the adapter isn't really practical. In no way am I complaining about price or anything because this stuff is great. Superior quality for the price. It is just really hard to find a blade holder for a 1.5" sink tube when the rest of the hilt costs so little. Which is the main reason for doing a sink tube hilt of this type. That is really all I was saying.

the heatsinks are here http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/pc-844-22-luxeon-star-heatsink.aspx, the 1.25 sink tubes are right here http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/pc-585-34-1-14-x-12-chrome-sink-tube.aspx

oh, i must have misread it, i thought he was talking about the blade holder for a 1.25" sink tube. I need one of those.

so are the blade holders for sale? I seen the blade holder for the 1.25 in the EL section but i'm not sure if it holds a 1" tube or 3/4"

Probably a 3/4".

01-17-2007, 05:32 PM
It fits a 1"............I have the prototype.

Edit : it will also slide inside of the MHS. Now I'm not so sure I'm going to use it on a sink tube.

Sorry Stoney, I thought you wanted one for an LED, but the only one that you saw was in the EL section. I'm not sure was size blade the EL holds.

yeah, i want one for LED. but i didn't see a blade holder for a 1.25" sink tube that holds a 1" blade

I think Tim is in the process of making more. The prototype works great. The only problem now is that I've found another use for it, so my original sink tube saber is going to have to wait a while longer.

MasterStoney
01-17-2007, 07:06 PM
how did you get the prototype?

Maybe he commisioned it as a custom work? Maybe he asked?

maybe

01-17-2007, 07:16 PM
I ask Tim about making one for me, but I think he had already planned to make one. Anyway, I guess I ask first so I got lucky.
