Is it possible to convert an FX into a 1watt lux saber? If I do, I probably wouldn't need a conversion kit, right?

You would need to use a micropuck to drive a 1 watt luxeon because the MR sound board puts out about 900ma and the 1 watt is 350ma max. The conversion kit is designed so that you can use a better blade and a 3 watt luxeon to make a nice saber. Spend the money for the kit you will be happy you did.

why don't ya just fork over the $$$?
with a star/O the blade will be super dim and you really wouldn't of saved that much money

agreed with the extra cash you would spend you might as well get a lux3

You don't ever "need" the conversion kit. It just makes the saber more durable and saves you some frustration.

As Do-Clo said you'd be bypassing the MR outputs one way or the other.

I just didn't want to bother with the heatsink and optics and stuff, but now I change my mind, comparing my star O saber and star III saber, I don't think it's worth it anymore.

no matter what you will need optics. they focus the led's light

But the star O has built in opticsl.

You'd definately still need a bit of a heatsink. A disc would do, but you'd still have to fit it in there.

just buy tim's kit. it is way stronger and looks better than you could possibly get it on your own

I'm converting a Mace Windu. Seems easiest from the tutorials.

Well, according to the tutorials, it has less dremel work than the Vader FX.

When vortex converted his vader he never once touched a dremel so I dont know what your smoking.

Because it states right in the frackin tutorials that the inside of the hilt should be cleaned up since Tim's machined the blade holder to be a tight perfect fit!

If you don't do it then it may or may not fit!

If you don't sand the inside of the MR hilt you will need a BFH-9000 to install the blade holder.

i think we need something in that pic for size comparison Firebird, like roughly a 3pixel wide penny or something that really gets the point accross of the BF nature of said Hammer

I thought the Mace was pretty simple. i had a couple little snags trying to get the blade holder in but after a little aggressive negotiation it went smooth like silk.

for my vader i had to force the blade holder in with a mallet, because i didnt know you had to sand the blade holder. but now that saber is buried in the tomb of sabers :(
