New Battery Question

I just noticed a 9v connector in the shop (yes, I know, blind as a bloody bat, hence the handle) Can I hook a 9v up to the Nano without frying it?

No. 9V will fry the NB and 9V's are not good in general for saber building, as they don't have the discharge rate to be useful for our purposes.

Darn, I was hoping to use a slightly smaller battery set, along with getting away from the Li-Ion batteries. Never used them and the way they''re listed here make me cautious. The pipe I'm using is MHv2 size, one inch.

There is nothing wrong with using Li-ion batteries, as long as you are not reckless with them.
