as the title states would this work? cause im on a tight budget and if i get this wrong it will be sometime before i actually get the saber done:( so if not that would the variable resistor work? thanks in advaced! bye!

What kind of sound card and battery are you using?

i am not useing a sound card... yet.:p but my battery is a 4 aaa battery holder with jst connector!

It will work, however, with 4AAA batteries, you will have a very short run time.

how short? and would a different battery pack help?

Very short, and yes, a Li-Ion solution would be much better for you.

would you say like... 1 hour? 2 hours? cause i got a lot of aaa/aa batteries!

and how long will the li ion run for?

Why not use a Buckpuck (http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/BuckPuck-1000mA-4-wire-P364.aspx)? It would provide constant current as your batteries died, making your LED brightness relatively constant as you use your saber.

buck pucks are probably not the best idea in my case because i have a short saber hilt

That plus you would need a 7.4V pack to run it.

How short is short? If you are looking at getting a Li-ion pack anyway you could jut hot glue it to the battery, or better yet, take a look at a chassis setup (http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/Acrylic-Chassis-Disc-for-MWS-BuckPuck-S7-P767.aspx). The possibilities are quite literally endless. I too am constrained on space for my planned build (Trying to fit a pack, PC, 2 switches and a RICE port in a 7 in main body). the Chassis system will help with keeping things in place, and if you decide to upgrade later will help keep things nice and neat as well.

the saber hilt is 9 and a half inches long... and i don't want a buck pack just a different battery pack (not a Li ion) some thing like a aa/aaa battery pack! (but still very helpful advice!) thanks!

Why are you using such a BIG resistor for a royal blue?

what do you mean big? should i use a different one?

what about a variable resistor? would that work?

10 watt resistors are physically very large. You should double-check your resistor calculations to see if you can use a smaller wattage resistor. Also note that each time you change the voltage of your battery pack, you'll need to recalculate the resistor.

Those are not recommended for permanent installation. They can wiggle over time with saber impacts and either dim the blade, or blow it out.
