Does anyone know how far through a short av switch mounted in this box will reach through a 1.25 body? What I'm wondering is if using that combo will be nearly as space saving as using one of the compressed tactile switches (inside the body cavity). So that I could save the space but get the benefit of the lit av switch.

According to the product page, that box stands about 3/8" (.375") off of the tube it's mounted to. The short 16mm AV switches are ~.8" long (from under the switch head to the tip of the contacts), and a standard MHS extension or hilt piece with ID of 1.25" has a wall of .1" thickness. 0.8" - 0.375" - 0.1" = 0.325". So your short switch should stick in to the tube just a hair over 5/16".
