View Full Version : How does one get rid of scratches on the mhs metals?

I dident know where to put this at all so I ask here.

Well I have accuired some nice lovly scratches in my mhs and was wandering What kinda polish I should use to take them out or if I have to sand it a bit or what.

Can you catch your finger nail in the scratch? Or is it just a "Flesh Wound"?

In some places it feels rough agenst the fingernail but still fleshwound.

Sounds like you're going to have to sand that sucker out and buff it up.


This is easiest to do with a lathe, or anything you can use to solidly rotate the part at a moderate speed.


Sand it down with some 220 or 360 (courser is faster, but finer makes the next steps easier)

When the scratch is sanded away, increase the grit to 600, then 800, 1000, 1500, you can go all the way up to 3000 if you want, but 1500 will work. Make sure you do this step with water.


After you're done sanding get some buffing compound and a hand towel and go to town on it until it looks like a mirror.

If you want the brushed aluminum look skip the last step.
