I am working on a quick job of turning a MHS that I have loaded with a 5w in to a Jaina saber and maybe my search talents stink but I don't seem to have much to work with. Does anyone have some good reference pics that I can work from?

Well... thelightsaber has it as a V2 look-a-like. If you check the hi-res shots of the japanese book covers it's even less detailed than that. Ripe for an MHS really.

Yeah, that is kinda on the same brain train that I have been riding. There is one shot of her saber that is so basic it would be awesome to make.

I could pretty much bang that puppy out with most of what I have on hand.
You got to love it when there is not much to go on huh? :P

James, ask Ashely of Freedom Base. I know that's who you are doing it for.

She's got reference pics. Some from the girl in So Cal who's done this costume and has had the saber she wants made by Random Sabers.

In the mean time, here are the Random pics of that saber:

Yeah, the girl Ryan made that for was purdy... let me see if I can find those pics. :)

EDIT: found it

Yes, she is. She's really nice, too. I've done a few 501st/Rebel Legion events with her in the LA area.

She was also chosen by Mary Franklin of LFL to represent ANH Leia in the Rose Parade. :D

Well, I know that this is the version that Ashley is going for.

Yep, we got that deal all straight.

So, I am now in the progress of doing a Jaina Solo MHS saber as shown on the Luuke deal. I have no doubt this has been done before and quite possibly even done as MHS but what the hey.

Since this was just a wild hair up my butt to do I will post progress pics for you guys and gals to enjoy, hate, laugh at, etc.

Also, since this is not actually for anyone I reckon that when I am done I will throw it in the gallery if I get some photos actually worthy of the gallery. I admit, like Firebird I think we have enough topics to post pics in to mess up the gallery with blurry, cruddy, and otherwise blah pics.

i thought jaina had a red crystal... guess im out of whack on my sw trivia

Oh that get's into issues that are just insane to get in to. I haven't read all the books so I don't really know. From what I have read, it is somewhere between blue and purple.

What the heck! It's MHS, I can make it quick change! :P

jjshumpert
12-06-2006, 09:24 AM
well now thats the perfect answer isnt it... or put in a white k2 and give her a set of lee filters, either way she can decide what color combination she likes the best

james3
12-06-2006, 10:02 AM
Nah. It will be a white 5w for the event comin up. Actually it won't be finished by then but it will be a decent saber for the troop. I will have to look in to the custom work option for a few things. :D

Too bad I mentioned that (SECOND post) and so did he. Luuke is the owner of thelightsaber.com if you didn't know.

james3
12-06-2006, 01:29 PM
Thanks Bob, but yeah, I had been there long before I posted the topic.
I actually had all the Luuke pics even when he had his deal down for a bit 8)

I will change the name of the topic so that it is correct with where we are heading now.

Please keep the pics and input coming though. That's what make this fun. :D

Now I am confused as to which version you are doing, James.

The pics from Random Sabers I posted is what Ashley is ultimately going for.

But I'm sure she will be happy to borrow whatever you have for her for the TRU event, till she gets her own made.

james3
12-06-2006, 03:34 PM
Well like you said, she already has one like that ordered and there really ain't much to it so banging that out is like a day job tops. I thought it would be fun to give the other one a go so I am going to see how far I get with it and worst case scenario is she gets to pick next week which one she wants to smack Tet and the troops with all day

I am now doing this more for the why the heck not factor then anything else.

I got that picture from the website shown in the photo if you go there there is a free 1 hour flash movie about a jedi village it's no lucas arts film but it's better than waiting another 20 some odd years for the next star wars series.

Well I have been busy with real life and some costuming stuff but it occurred to me that I haven't done an update in a while so here y'all go.
Since this a hilt I am doing for the heck of it and not for a customer I am more then happy to show it off.

So far, MHS with the 5w white up in there.

Still want to do a little black here and there and I am going to order a clamp but it looked pretty good with the purple lens for the last couple events I have done.

That might be a good idea... Make the speaker grill a button.

Gee, I wish I had thought about that before I did up my pommel section...

I think it looks cool as it is.
Personal choice really, but i'm not a huge fan of too much detail on my sabers. You're supposed to dazzle your opponent with funky moves/twists/turns and leaps, not sparkles and glitter on your hilt!!!!

Simpler = better

Replicas like Sidious or Mace i'll allow in my collection on the grounds that they ARE replicas, but too flash custom jobbies really aren't for me. But again that's just my choice.

i prefer:

Functionality=better

Barmic Rin
03-05-2007, 08:19 AM
Well, you know what I mean. Having a simple hilt allows for better movement and greater freedom in you hands, some just go OTT on studs/ buttons/ o-rings etc. so the end result is abit clunky when you're swinging it around.
Mine will have a couple of extra screws as decoration, not too much IMO (4 to be exact, one of those holding blade)
Plain, simple and functional for me.

Each to their own, as they say.....

james3
03-07-2007, 07:55 AM
Thanks Barmic.

I am actually right there with you on that line of thinking. When I am on a roll building hilts I prefer to use the K.I.S.S. method as well. There is beauty in simplicity. I will admit that part of the reason this project has gone so slow is that I really like it as it is as well. The hilt is very well balanced and is a real joy to spin and swing. Other then the addition of the clunky switch box though, I would say that pretty much it is more paint then anything at this point. I am just waiting for the temps to get back up.
