View Full Version : Cobin's driver

Hello,
Corbin's driver has LED leads, battery leads, clash and lock leads, on/off leads. However, it does not have sound correct? And does it have a speaker on not (looked like it might-some small round object in the pic-could be something else). It says on the site you can hook an impact sensor in parallel with C&L switch, but where would you wire the sound card, speaker, and motion sensor? And can it be hooked to one switch as mentioned in the other thread via a DPDT switch?

Thank you,
Cain

Actually it is a lot simpler than that, I already bought a Driver Board and all it does is control the Led, all you have is 8 connections: Battery(+,-), Switch (In,Out) momentery, Crash/Lock; either hook up a Momentary Switch, Shock Sensor or Both, Led Out(+,-).
Now all the Sound Functions and the speaker are part of the other board, I took apart a Yoda(Hasbro) Saber and it looks like all you need is to tap in to the Switch from the Driver and supply battery power, it already has the Speaker and Shock Sensor built in. I hope this helps.

You can get one out of a gutted Hasbro toy saber and I am sure some companys sell them but I dont know which ones. I got all mine out of hasbros.

yeah he's right. hasbros are the easiest way to get the sound boards. and if you get the right ones you can get a motion and a shock sensor.

What about the "force resonators" Corbin sells? Would those work for the sound, or is it easier just to go into my Hasbro Obi saber?

The "force resonators" are just little vibrating motors, like what you would find in a pager.

Thanks Spencer, that saved me a couple bucks. The Hasbro toys the best for the sound huh? Ok, I guess I'll just have to tear one up then.

The hasbros are not the best, but they are the cheapest. A module from an MR FX sounds way better, but it costs way more as well.

How difficult is it to hack the MRFX modules, and where in the saber are they located? I had a feeling like the Mace Windu saber had it contained in the battery pack unit, seeing as the speaker was there, too.

I have a new problem and was wondering if anybody had any idea's, I am using a Corbin Driver with a Ultra Sound Board in my new Led Saber I am building. I am trying to get the Shock Sensor from the Sound Board to simultaneously control the Driver Clash feature without using an extra switch. If anybody knows, I would really appreciate it.[;)]

Her's a picture of the various sound boards found in MR sabers. Just somthing to reference.
http://img75.imageshack.us/img75/7000/img03050dg.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Left is the standard 3 AA Sound board
Next is a 6 AA board used for LED
Third is the 6AA used by MR in their EL
Last is to me the coolest because of it's size. I was used in an Ep II Anakin by MR. It huuks up to a seperate inverter like the third one just smaller.
Just posted these pics so folks will know what they got

That's great, those pics of the sound drivers. Do we have a wiring guide available somewhere, tells us what wire does what? That'd be spiffy. Also, am I correct when I say that it looks like the clash and motion sensors are mounted directly on the sound chip?

Hey Tim,
is it possible for you to make a tutorial for installing a Corbin's driver with a hasbro sound board? i have no experience with these electronics. not to mention this will be my first time building an LED saber? Thanks

It's not up yet on his site but he made this for me and posted it at ASAP.

There is no need for a second switch because the clash sensor does the work.

EDIT:Forgot to mention the switch is a DPDT (double pull double throw) momentary.

How can i use 5 AA's for a 3 watt when the largest battery holder holds only 4?

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c237/G-FORCE13/scan.jpg Hmm looks familiar, I worked toghether with corbin to make this design work. [:D][:p]

<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"> I asked Corbin the same question you only need 5AA's if you are using rechargables since they aoly produce 1.2V instead of 1.5V so the 4 AA holder is fine that is what I am using. I am using this same design in my new Led, the only thing you will have to add is a second master power switch since the Sound Board and Led Board get out of Sync sometimes and you have to reset them. Also to add a Force Resonator just connect the + to the Bat Hot side and the - to the DPDT switch on the Sound Board Red Wire so it Kicks in on Start up and Shutdown, that is what I am doing.[:)]

Once I get all my supplies I'll try it out, hopefully I won't kill myself trying to make this work. this might not be for another few weeks though, until the shop gets more of those LED blade holders in.
Thanks for the blue-prints guys.

Corbin just posted the coolest thing on TFN.[:D] When you hook up the resonator he offers (basically a small motor) to the left over negative lamp wire from the hasbro to the motor you get: a sputtering kick at the start and end, idle for the hum and it kicks on the clash.

That is so cool.[8D]

If I trim down the circuit board sides of the Corbin driver I bought to fit inside my sink tube will it hurt the driver at all. It just barely doesn't fit and needs to have a few millimeters shaved off.

Just don't cut any of the contacts off.[:)] It can stand a bit of trimming.

I am a little confused on how the SPDT Momentary switch hooks up to the Corbin Driver / Hasbro sound module diagram. There are three wires off the switch and I'm not sure which wire goes where. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

xwingband
03-11-2006, 04:32 PM
Well, the one on the first page of this thread is a DPDT which would cause the confusion. It has 6 contacts. I believe you can use the SPDT by ignoring either the left or right contact and following the one Tim put here:

Thanks for the clarification XWINGBAND, to many letters in these switches it gets confusing. I'll try the other diagram and see what happens. Thanks for the help this forum is great.

I tried this configuration but with the green and red wires switched on the SPDT Momentary switch and only the sound would come on, the LED did nothing. I'll give this a try and see if it makes a difference. Thanks Strydur.

With the green and red switched it wont work.
