Are you using two alkaline batteries to power that?

Nano needs a min. of 3.4v... those two duracell=3.0 might be your problem? also you should heat shrink those connections

I intend to heat shrink them. Just testing. You think they just aren't putting out enough power?

very well could be... any chance you have a 3 aa or aaa holder? most electronic stores i know have them, and are $2... easy way to test the theory

That is correct. If you are using alkaline batteries, you will need 3 of them. Two is not enough, and 4 is too much.

With your setup, you could also use a single 14500 li-ion battery and a dummy cell, and put those in your AA holder.
