I've searched but can't find anything. Can a MR board run with a LIO pack, or is it too much for the board to handle?

Yes it can. Use a single cell 18650 and you will be fine. Anything over 6V and you will fry it. You can wire in a 5V current regulator and use a 7.4V pack, but really that just adds more work and isn't going to make the board perform any better.
