So I've had this amazing kill plug for a while, but now I'd like to customize it. It is just begging to be powder coated but it's got the plastic piece inserted. I've got some spare style 4 plugs available, so I'm not concerned with keeping the existing plastic piece intact, but for the life of me I can't get it out of the metal holder! Any suggestions?

I'm assuming it's glued in place. You may be able to drill it out if you're careful, and then replace the plastic piece after powder coating.

I got mine out on accident while grinding on the metal it got hot and fell out, so you could try heat.

If you have a heat gun I would give that ago first, most of the kill plugs I have looked at are glued in.

The plastic piece is pressed in. I don't think they are glued. If you damage it when removing it, you can buy a replacement plastic piece: http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/Kill-plug-style-4-P783.aspx

Yup, got a couple of them!

I will try heat. I have been pulling on that plastic piece for days using needle-nose pliers and just holding the metal piece, it just doesn't want to give. I've hesitated putting the metal in a vise or pliers, as I really don't want to scratch it up. Same for drilling it out... Still not sure how I'm gonna mount the thing for powder coating, but that's part of the fun, yes?

Thanks for the suggestions guys! I will post back results.

Wrap the metal with a few layers of painter's tape. It'll keep damage to a minimum. The gripping surfaces of my vice have a couple layers of blue painter's tape on them just for that purpose.
