Happy I found this site. Star wars geek for 30 years.. going to mega con next year and it's never to soon to start planning. Went last year as Darth Nilus but used an FX Maul saber.. This year in an effort to be as authentic as possible, going to be building this saber myself. Going as Reven. Still undecided as to if I will be carrying 2 or one.. was thinking one hilt only and one completed. I guess that will depend on how the first one comes out. Any advise will be welcome.

Step 1: Read. There's a TON of information here, and it can be overwhelming at first. At a minimum, read the sticky posts in the following forum: http://forums.thecustomsabershop.com/forumdisplay.php?35-New-to-the-saber-scene-Start-Here

Step 2. Play with the MHS builder, if you intend on building an MHS-based saber. http://forums.thecustomsabershop.com/mhsbuilder/mhsbuilder.php I highly recommend starting with MHS, as it's very friendly for the first time builder.

Step 3. Making design decisions. Don't try to cram everything into your first build, unless you have some mad skills in metalworking/electronics/etc. Do you want sound? What color saber blade? Paint/powder coating? There are a TON of options to make a saber unique to you.

Step 4. Post your parts list here: http://forums.thecustomsabershop.com/forumdisplay.php?39-Parts-lists for a more experienced builder to look over. There are a lot of little parts in a saber, and it's really easy to miss a few your first time around.

Once you've read a bit, and understand some of our jargon, feel free to ask a few questions. Odds are, the question has been answered before. Please try to look for the answers with the search function first. If you can't find anything, then many of us will be happy to assist. We're not going to spoonfeed you ALL the answers, but we will help.

Welcome to the forums!

Welcome to the forums!

Thanks much appreciated. I have been able to look at some of the links.. tonight I am going to really sit down and devote the time needed to read through. As I am trying to replicate something that already exists I don't have to worry about the amount of parts for a look (thankfully) There are tons of options. I think I have all the correct parts in my basket on the custom saber web site.

I did have one other question. I really want the saber to have sound, I think that is just as important as all the rest. Is there a thread that anyone can think of that would be gentle to a newbee? As I stated before I have all my parts for the build ready to purchase, everything has been addressed as I have read in other posts, its just the sound that's missing..
thanks again!

Yeah i think exactly as you do, Sound it's very important, for me it's half of the saber.
I'm newby too, just started last month with the added trouble of being in the old continent where finding parts it's more difficult. ultil last month I never did any soldering, and learning was easy, but I hurted a couple of fingers at first, try not start with your leds, I started with my battery holders to lear a little bit before.

For me assembling the nano biscotte was really easy if you don't try to add a recharge port or killing swith, I just pick out batteries to turn it completely off. I think it's your best option to start, and it really sounds great. I think TCSS has a prewired version (not sure about this, I readed something in another tread).

I assembled a cheap economy board from an electronic lightsaber toy and found it easy too, but maybe it's not my fisrt option as I think there are not only one kind of board inside, maybe mine was the easy one. and I prefer nano biscotte sound, looks better for me.
