Good looking pair of sabers there!

Now I am really antsy to get my order in from Tim for my modular saber and blade kit!!!

BTW...are you planning on more aesthetic changes to the sabers in the way of emmitters and whatnot?

...how will you know the light unless you have seen the dark? How will you know the good unless you have flirted with the evil?

Well, I finally got around to taking pics of my first 2 MHS sabers.

Nice idea for an activation box yet not blocking the button.[:D] Ever consider snaking the wires through the button hole and getting a sliding switch in there?

A slide switch would be nice, but I kinda like how the button falls in the center of the gap. It adds character... [;)]

I may add a red switch boot and some kind of an emitter, but I'm not sure yet. I'm trying to keep it simple, seeing as how I'm still pretty new to this.

EDIT-

TIP:

Thats the Vader dummy box from the Hasbro 'Build Your Own Lightsaber' kit (for anyone that didn't know). I Super-Glued some rubber seals in there and wedged it on. It doesn't budge at all, and looks great. No drilling, or tapping, required. [:p]

Looks like it, but no. It's from a cheap ice scraper that had a handle about 3/4" wide. Took a lot of stretching to get that in place.

I can tell

For the switch thing, you could probably easily build a button cover that looks like the vader switch, it would just be a button instead.

Here's one half my Double Saber. I could've had both sides done except i dropped one side on the threaded part so i will have to repair that later when lathe comes in. i ordered another in the mean time.i used carbon fiber to make the coupler. First i used some multi-Tone paint that i made extra transparent so you could see colorshift but show the carbon fiber weave off. The center will be fixed but will contain the speakers for two MR sound boards so they can be ignited seperatly with teir own sound.

Thanks guys. The pics don't do it justice. I Used Multi- tone paint over the carbon so it changes from blue to purple to red depending on the viewing angle.

where did you get the paint?

I dont know what paint TET used, but there is a cool paint product at autozone called MIRAGE. It comes in two different styles. Both change to about 6-7 different colors depending on how you look at it. It is a three step process consisting of primer, base coat and clear coat. Its a somewhat long process, waiting for drying time, but well worth it. I used this to paint flames on my motorcycle and it came out awesome.

There are a few trucks with that kind of paint driving around my town, the best looking one in my opinion shifts from purple to green to midnight blue, it looks rather stellar

Bazuka - sorry about the delayed response. Yes, it is actually one long piece of leather wrapped around the hilt. I don't remember the actual type of leather though.

No problem, I actually found a thread at theforce.net that had the answer as well. I really like the look of that, it seems authentic to the movies in a way.

The paint is made by MARTIN SENOUR. It shifts from CYAN to PURPLE to RED. Some of the others shift to too many colors so at one point you get a real muddy orangy colr that does not fit in to the progression. The Mirage paint isn't bad either. If you use professional clear you can't tell it from the $1200 a quart stuff. Remember it is most visible over dark colors. Always make sure the base is uniform before putting any of these or you'll get an uneven look in the multi tone. Thanks guys

I have an EL saber that's wrapped in leather, which doesn't make it look like a movie saber, but it's such a comfortable grip. You can get the leather in several different colors and widths, as well.

Hi all
These MHS are great. I've got one and I just ordered enough parts to build another, plus a few spare parts. I already built up the first MHS into a working saber. I added an Obi Wan styled emitter to it. The design is sorta odd in that there's a section of blade just in front of the MHS where I covered it with electrical tape, then O rings. The emitter slid on over the blade and is held in place with a set screw. This setup allows for a smaller neck area than is possible in a machined piece.

http://server3.uploadit.org/files/corbinspics7-MHS2.JPG

http://server2.uploadit.org/files/corbinspics7-MHS1.JPG

I also added industrial grade heat shrink to the grip area after making a few rings out of electrical tape. I was going to use O rings, but decided not to this time. Since this saber is to be used for some pretty serious dueling, there's rubber guards around the pommel and emitter in case the saber is dropped.
The pommel was machined out to hold a speaker system as well. With my new drivers that allow for a latching on/off switch, mating it up to an FX sound board is a piece of cake now. [:D]
The button had a plunger that was a bit too long for my taste, so I shortened it and rounded it out. I also replaced the black plastic bezel on it with a knurled metal one I found at a hardware store. Now I just have to add a recharge port.
