Eredete'

This project started in July 2012. RDT contacted me via my website and asked me to create his "perfect" saber as his gift to himself for Medical School Graduation (May 2013). The sketch he sent was very 'rough', so over the next few months I reworked the art into something possible to build. Once he approved the sketch I had to source the laser engraving (his initials in Aurabesh). Strydur at TCSS was kind enough to handle that for me. We were not really sure what size to go with so we went with one section of MHS sleeve with the initials 1" tall and another 0.5" tall. I settled on the 0.5" for the main shroud in the design sketch, but the 1" seemed a shame to waste, so I designed the remainder of the hilt/shrouds around them. Now the initials are right side up no matter which way the saber is oriented (on his belt or in his hand). I also added some small windows on the emitter for a little more flare. I cut the 'fins' out of 1.5" aluminum tube and machined grooves forthem into the shroud prior to the vertical milling. The two floating pieces are epoxied onto the powder coated body of the hilt. I also machined some fine detail into the recessed black 'neck' of the hilt so as to keep with my details matter design approach. I actually held this orange P4 for nearly a year for this saber as well because it is his dream color. Other small details include a copper powder coated socket cap screw holding the CT wheel on and a spacer so that the CT wheel does not 'squish' the rubber inlaid grips. I also added a dual LED Crystal PommelTM even though he is not expecting it and it matches the color of the blade perfectly. I think that the thing that I me the most proud of on this saber is that the button head screws along the ventrum of the saber are PERFECTLY lined up! Yes I know I have a mill, but I still remember the days of when that simple never happened, lol. I had a very difficult time with motivation on this project and shelved it many times so as to overcome some small design hurdle in an effective manner. The process worked because in the end, I am exceptionally happy with the design and very proud to attribute my name to this saber. Thanks for taking the time to check it out.

So what is that sitting between the pommel and the body? That little black piece there? Also I like how the covertec wheel holds down those two grips.

Nice work LDM, it came out great! :p

It's either a trim ring or a O-ring, more likely a trim ring.

It is actually a 'fat' O-ring. It just fit the design and was the right color. I was going to machine and Powder coat an aluminum custom trim ring, but this just fit perfectly and fit the layers of the saber well so I went with it.

Thanks guys ;)

I know what to do for my custom saber then. Thanks for the idea if you don't mind. =] Nice saber by the way but since you had Dark Meat font on wouldn't this then be a Sith saber? Lol. Or did the client like the deeper sounds of Dark Meat?

This is really awesome LDM! I love the whole design of the saber, especially the mid-section with the switches and shrouds. Beautifully done!

I was guessing a big o-ring. Pretty cool. Is it just resting on the pommel cap or is there a gap that it's sitting in?

I just liked that font for this one, even though it is a light side saber ;) He is going to change it anyways when he gets it.

Thank you very much.

There is a gap. I just machined down the gap between the threads and the end of the pommel a few mm and it stays perfectly ;)
