Ever since I came upon Slothfurnace on the internet all those years ago, I have always been in awe of his work. One of my personal favorites of his sabers was Derelict. So, I made my own that borrows heavily from Derelict. Sorry to be unoriginal in my design Sloth. Think of it as the Master (you) inspiring his pupils (the rest of us saberfolk).
The saber is not finished yet, as I have needed to gut it and reorganize all of the electronics. I have also painted several parts of it since these photos were taken. I also still need to build the LED string for the blade, which will be green. It has a 2005 MR Luke ROTJ soundboard, as I really like the tone of the sounds on that board.

I don't blame you for wanting a version of the Derelict, it's an amazing fusion between the prequels and the original series hilts. I'd make one meself if I had the resources. Wonderful work! I'm more than a little jealous...Sounds like this will be a sweet build when you're done.

Nice. I don't think he will mind. Its your own in a way.

Here it is, all painted. I came up with a way to weather the painted parts a bit. I didn't want them to be solid black, so I mixed paint with paint thinner, dumped it out on rags, and then rubbed the rags on the parts. The paint stuck in some areas and not in others due to the paint-paint thinner mixture. I decided not to use the red graflex button as Sloth did, partially because it made it so close to Derelict, but also because with one of the graflex glass eyes in the hole (unfortunately I forgot to put it in when I took the photos), the whole saber looks a little more "streamlined". Also the glass eye acts as a secondary blade retention screw. There is also a bit of polycarbonate blade sticking out of it. This will become the bit that is in the emitter and lights up when there is no blade, other wise I just have a big empty whole and a fancy metal tube that makes noise. The "blade plug" as I call it, will not be that long; I will cut the length down once I decide what the blade plug should look like. Right now I have no idea. Any suggestions?

So I finally got around to making the blade plug. I am really pleased with how it turned out. No LED in there yet, and I trashed the DIN plug I had, so I need to pick up another.

I repainted the Ace Rocket pommel and the grip because they were not dark enough in my opinion.

It looks good. I'm sure Sloth would be proud. ;)

So, for some completely unknown reason, my Luke ROTJ board that I am using for this saber stopped working. It worked, I turned everything off, tried to turn it on again, and nothing. Not one damn blip, no puff of smoke. Nothing. I know that it is not the battery because it was fully charged. I do not know what could be wrong. I crossed absolutely no wires. The board doesn't even heat up as if there were some current flowing to it. Nada, nothing, zip, zilch. What do I do?

Offhand, I would say an upgrade to a NB probably would be a good idea. ;) I would also make sure the battery is holding and outputting the charge. If you have a recharge port, that could be the culprit. Those do tend to fail on a fairly regular basis.

I was thinking about upgrading, but I really like the scrolling LED effect of the MR boards. It is not the recharge port. I tried it with and without the recharge port. I might try charging the battery again to see if that works. If not, I will look on ebay for another board I guess.

So after several failed attempts to get the MR Luke ROTJ board in working order, and a visit to a friend who is a specialist with circuit boards, and even he had no idea why it did not work, I have decided to skip the LED string blade idea and instead use the Luxeon Tri-Rebel Star (Green/Green/White) with a Petit Crouton 2.0, and FoC.

I have to take a break form this saber for financial reasons. Also, my job keeps me pretty busy, so I do not have a whole lot of time to work on this saber. I was able to throw together my other saber:http://forums.thecustomsabershop.com/showthread.php?15780-M%FCll-A-Random-Graflex-Saber because I already had everything for that lying around and it was a very quick, simple, and fun project. Right now I am working on a few small, fun projects here and there. If you're interested in my other stuff, visit my facebook page.

Anyone who is a fan of Doctor Who might be interested to see what I am doing in what little spare time I have.

Thanks for bearing with me on this project, I will return to it soon (hopefully).

Finally I am back on this project! Got some cash together and purchased the guts for this tribute. I am using a PC 2.0. I will probably use the provided sound font, but who knows I might use a different one, or even mix my own. But now to the photos, which I must apologize are links to my facebook [age due to the fact that I was having trouble uploading the photos directly to this.

Switch all wired up with the 20mA DynaOhm™ Variable Resistor wired to the positive of the LED in the switch.

A shot of the speaker mount. I did not want to drill sound holes in the Ace Rocket pommel, so I have the speaker facing forward with hidden sound holes. The tricky part is to get all of the wires pass the speaker without being crushed, so I drilled holes in the speaker mount and mille channels in it for the wires.

You can clearly see the wires passing through the speaker mount here. I had to use thin ribbon wire because of the speaker set up; normal gauge wires are to thick to pass through like this.

Calamity strikes! When partaking in some final cram fu for my Derelict Tribute, one of the speaker wires became disconnected and I may have to disassemble the entire chassis, which took a lot of effort I might add, in order reattach the wire. And to top it all off, I mixed up the wires to the main LED and the accent LED. So when the saber turns on, no sound comes out, and only the illuminated switch lights up.

Don't worry. Each successive rebuild gets easier than the last. Just don't work on it when you're tired and/or frustrated.

Thanks Silver Serpent. Yeah, I didn't return to the project because I made that mistake; I was too bummed out to work on it and I didn't want to make any more mistakes. I have in the past screwed up projects simply because I was tired. I try not to work on my projects in such states.

You'll do fine. Don't take any bumps along the road as an indication of how the entire road is.

I almost gave up during my first build, which almost melted entirely. But decided to overcome it. You can do it!

Slothfurnace is right. If you go slow, you'll get there.

Most people think it's easy, but it isn't and people need to learn that for themselves. You just need to take a step back and learn from your "issues" and you'll be fine.

Nice! Derelict is an awesome saber design.

I always enjoy build logs. I Just happen to have Derelict MHS build that I am in the middle of.

Correct, The game saber is based off of the original Derelict.

Sloth works at BioWare. There is some story to how it got in the game, but that's for him to tell.

Here we go, the finished hilt. After such a long time I am so glad to finally be done with this hilt. It has been a long journey and I have emerged a wiser man. I would like to thank Slothfurnace for the original inspiration. I would also like to thank Tim for having this wonderful shop. And I would like to thank the countless members of this forum who helped me whenever I hit a snafu.
And now, some photos:
