Finally i have gotten my hands on two of these Red, Green, Blue Luxeon LED. These things are really cool. No need for colored discs if you want to change between the three or combos of the three. Red shines thru on most combos though. here are some pics.

Dude, try switching your camera to close-up mode, or whatever it may be called on your camera. It's designed for shots closer than 12".

Blurry pics are pretty much useless.

Is this a 3-in-1 LED? Are you able to rig a switch so you don't have to rewire it every time?

Sorry about the pics. Camera is new to me. You can wire it up to use all colors without rewireing. You just need a three position switch or three switches so you can turn on more than one at a time but red overtakes any of the other colors.

tetmatek, your desk looks just like mine! [:D]

so, you say you can make any color combination? Like purple? How? as far as I know, on regular RGB leds the color is controled by the voltage or current or something like that. Enlighten us bro!

The only combo that looks different is blue and green. Red overtakes any of the other comos including all three at once. It takes about 15 minutes to decorate my desk like that and hour to clean it. Believe my my wife makes me after a good saber session.[:D] Iguess the Led looks best one at a time or blue and green. if i could lower the voltage on the red when it was used with blue you theoretically could get purple. Any thought about way to control the voltage. some kind of potentiometer maybe. i'm not a electronics expert at all so my guesses might sound crazy.

As far as I know Luxeon doesnt actually sell these. Tetmatek can share info if he wants. From what I can tell these are only rated at 30 lumens but I could be wrong.

They are supposed to be 70 Lumens but i have no way to be sure. I can't tell the difference side by side my single color LED's. I got them from an overseas source which is supposed to be a certified LED manufacturer. Here is their site www.led-center.com I had sent them an email asking about them because they claimed to specialize in RGB LED.They replied quite promptly so i ordered some. No problem with sharing info but i did want to make sure with Tim first in case he was going to sell them too. My saber should be done somtime this week so I'll post pics when done. The pics of the facility on the site look pretty impressive and they claim to be the largest manufacturer of LED in tat part of the world. I know they look pretty good.[:D] Maybe sombody else will get some to give their feed back.

Notice it does not say LUMILEDS on the star. www.ledcenter.com call' s i a 3W Full Color LED. it does not bother me that it not from them . They are my source for this type LED. I guess I'll see how it performs.

if i order some of these RGB LEDs from ebay, can TCSS install them in finished sabers? also if a sound module is provided can you install it? these wiring diagrams look very simple but I prefer to let more experienced hands do a neater job if possible.

Can the RGB LED's be installed into a customized ForceFX Saber?

Strydur

These are cool..but remember they are dimmer than a standard 3w of the same color and you also need a special circuit/switch setup if you want to be able to change colors.

how much dimmer? can TCSS do the special wiring?

I would not judge their brightness until i had one to compare it with. wiring is easy and it will produce 4 colors. i am using 2 toggle switches to get the for colors. one for red and blue with an off position in the center then another toggle to green. blue and green acheive a light blue.
Here are some pictures with a lamp (60W bulb) and over head light (100watt )on and some with them off but not total dark.

I'll Be Listing a Color Changing vader on ebay just after January 1. I requires the additional switches but is quite simple to wire. for all those that have one coming I'll tell you that you wire it up with the positive as the common or C on the LED. The RGB connect to the negative and with all the grounds tied together from the plug the LED achieves the brightness of the others. I'll Post a wiring diagram soon. If anybody needs help in wiring before then just IM me or send an Email

the website mentioned earlier inthis thread has 3 models of "full color" LEDs, which one is the brightest? the red looks the dimmest in almost all colors of EL or LED, but it seems to vary from model to model of these multis.
suggestions?

Thanks in advance [:)]

It's all in tight. I prefer using the 6 battery models for my RGB LEd's cause the power drain is fast on the three batt models.

tetmatek, are you using the same Prolight LED I am using? I know Luxeon doesn't make RGB, so it's got to be the same. Mine is powered from a typical MR setup and I can't say it drains the batteries any faster than a regular Lux III. When you use 6AAs, do you serialize them and resistor them down or use a 2 X 4.5 setup?

I use a 2 X 4.5 set up. It seemed like with the 3 X 1.5 the sound got crackly sounding really fast then cleared with new batteries then the same.

I am starting an RGB project soon, and i was wondering about the optics.
Does a standard lens focus the 3 individual leds in the main one fine?

I bought the Prolight ones just for the sake of it... it totally worked because it's a reflector with an OD of 1.25" (the ID of my PolyC tube).[:)]
