I know it's not saber building, but it relates to Star Wars...

Is anyone else like me - you start a model kit with huge dreams of intricate details, and it ends up being so much work that the unfinished project sits in a box for a decade (my NCC-1701).

Well - I'm off work for awhile, so I have a little time. So I've been plugging away at my Millenium Falcon model. It will have landing lights, engine lights and a completely re-done ****pit. It represents hundreds of hours of work... but this one is in range of actually being FINISHED!

Join the revolution! Finish your model and post pics!

Thanks,
Wait'll it's finished!
This model kit is just the cheap Ertl Millenium Falcon Model. it's loaded with subtle errors, some of them I've painstakingly corrected. You can buy upgrade parts kits for this one online, but they're over a hundred bucks. The really accurate falcon model is like $250.00!

what did you use for the light in back? is it el wire? or fiber optic wires?

Um, don't see how it could be fiber optics, which aren't actually "wires", because there is no light source for them. You can't light side glow fiber optic cable, if that's what you were thinking it was, with mere LEDs, it needs powerful light source that woudn't fit in a model and it would probably melt it if it was too close, I'm sure those things get hot!

I recently bought a larger scale X-Wing and Vader TIE fighter on ebay. I really want to put lighting kits into them.

You can find kits here:

They have a Falcon kit, too. It says they use LEDs for it.

Sweet J-Lo!
My falcon engine lights are actually part of a MR FX blade. I cut out a section of the LEDs and made my own solder contacts - then bent it a little, slid it back into the foam, and voila. I had to make my own engine grill out of an amp cover, it's not in the pic.

Very ingenious, MC. Why not make something you already have work for you? :)

Do they have to be Star Wars models? Or can I post something else?

Oh, and MC That Enterprise model you didn't finish, is it the Movie Refit, or the Original Series model?

The title of the thread is "Unfinished Models", it doesn't specify Star Wars.

I say, post anything you've got!

What he did was probably a solution of convinience. I'd like to slap in a neon tube. :D It's going to sit there so no worries about it breaking.

The enterprise model was actually NCC-1701-A, from Search for Spock. It's in a box 1000 miles away at my parents place.

Edit* Some guys used an EL sheet for the falcon's engine glow, I like the LED string because it's bright, and uses very little power, and it works on the same 3 volts as my landing lights and floodlights.

i did a jupiter 2 ship from the old tv series.

i used metallized silver paint for the skin, and i installed a light in the upper deck, and in the lower engine i installed a ring of 14 volt lights.

my solution to making it appear to rotate was to grab one of those license plate thingies you used to see, that had the light that rotated around the plate, well when i was ready to do it,m bamm, oklahoma outlawed them, and stores pulled them off the shelves. so im stil lookin for something to use witht the lights to get that rotation effect.

Update...
I've been spending most of my spare time trying to finish this project.
I'm almost there!

I have wired in over 23 LED's on 3 circuts. I have a setup for remote switches too.

Most of the painting is done - I only have to do the weathering/rust etc.

Thanks,
I like yours too! I never got into cars. Planes - then starships. I got some great Star Trek ships in boxes somewhere.

I have 2 NCC-1701-Ds, and an "-A". All of which are in soar shape.

I have a jet that I'm not quite sure what it is, but it looks like an F-16.

I also used to have many Estes Modle Rockets too. Thoes are fun!

I've got 2 1/2 Air Plains too.

There's also all thoes long forgotten projects that have made it to Never Nerver Land. Too many to count. I think for every modle I completed, there's 2 that I didn't.

I miss my models (well, the ones I've finished). My best were all Star Trek starships. I also started out building planes; some WWII, but mostly modern jets. But, they are all in storage, 2 hours away from here.

I do have a couple small Macross VFs that I'm slowly working on, though.

Anyway, that Falcon is lookin' sweet, MC!
