Saber Cane V3

This project is one of those that are good for the soul. I am not sure how aware everyone is as to how popular my youtube video about the very first saber cane is, but suffice to say that I get 20+ requests per year to build them. I could build them exclusively if I chose to, but I decided long ago that I would only build them for those in true need. I won't build them as "props". I build them to be used. In this case, a very nice lady contacted me through my website pleading for one. Her husband was in a horrendous car accident and has lost the will to get better. He is 5'9" and has ballooned up to over 290# with his lack of activity. His wife says that she has tried everything and this is her last idea. He loves Star Wars she says and that it is her hope that a tool like this will motivate him to get up and get after his rehab. This is the reason that I took the project. As far as the design goes, he currently uses an "L-shaped" cane, so that is what she requested for him. Her other request was that it have a TruPurple blade. I based the hilt on MHS parts and added an amalgamation of "classic" lightsaber design cues. The T-Track grips, the ROTS Obi clamp, the ANH bubble strip, the gold powder (went with Sun Gold because I happened to have it handy). I used an MHS ton-fa handle, which I knurled and powder coated in black for a good grip. I attached it to the hilt with 4 screws (2 full threaded and 2 in lag orientation) to make it as strong as possible. For detail, I PC'd the grooves in copper and added some custom machined shrouds. I also used 2 blade set screws since this is made to be WALKED WITH after all. The overall length of the cane is 34" to the grip and 37" to the end of the hilt. Take a look. I hope that it serves to impact this gentleman's life in some positive way and that he gets back to being an active person. I am humbled to have once again been asked to provide such a tool.
