I saw the diagram for the wiring in the EL hilt tutorial. I was wondering what the purpose of the small red LED light was. Is that to take some of the load from the battery?
If I were to skip using the LED light should I use a 470 ohm resister? My starter kit is not in yet but I wanted to get a heads up before I started the work.[/quote]

It's only for looks... it's a decratice "power" light.

Pretty much the reason for putting in a resistor on an EL saber is so that if power is applied to the hilt without a blade installed the LED takes the strain off of the inverter of getting all the juice. I didn't use that setup in my kids EL sabers and they have left them on with the blades out quite often with no problems. I will not endorse such a practice I am just saying my observations.

If you don't want it on there you don't need it. :wink:
