These are the pics from last nights trick or treat... Finally finished the darn thing. ;)

I put the 5 on the jetpack just for something to fill that space. To be honest, I was just being lazy and didn't feel like doing it right. Guess thats okay though considering that its already an ESB'ish pack on a SE Fett anyway. I didn't have time to paint the red, blue, yellow pack. :(

Wha? Mustard?

Devilstar2k2

Yeah, that yellow stuff is mustard... Cheaper and more readily available than masking fluid.

09-14-2006, 05:28 PM
Nice work devilstar. Keep us up dated. The only problem I see is that you aren't doing a Jango. :D Just kidding.

Did you see that Sgt. Fang is offering his mystery helmets one last time. They are fairly cheap imo. Not that your helmet isn't looking good. I just thought I would let you know.

Keep up the good work.

Jango out.

Devilstar2k2
09-14-2006, 05:30 PM
I paid for my Sgt. Fang a month ago... This is my sons helmet. Mines actually a batch ahead of the current run. Good lookin' out though.

EDIT-

lol... Yeah... I thought I mentioned in the top post that this wasn't my helmet. This is just a practice run for me to paint. I wouldn't attempt to build a Boba costume and try to get away with this helmet. Although, to be honest, I have seen worse.

JediMcD
09-14-2006, 07:09 PM
Yeah the helmet looks really good for a trial run. I can't wait to see what yours comes out like. By the way did you ever order those sound boards do-clo recommended? I am about to get one to try it out.

Devilstar2k2
09-14-2006, 07:14 PM
Nope... I decided that I'm gonna wait and see what the Skullworx guy comes up with.

The SF should be here in just outside of a week. I can't wait. :D

Devilstar2k2

Its for the MQ1 circuit that is on the inside, behind the key slots in the back of the helmet.

Devilstar2k2

very very nice i love it.

btw can you please give instructions on how to make it?

Just strip the paint off, epoxy it together, fill the seam, and paint it. Not much to it really. The pics are above are pretty self explanatory for everything else (dent, masking, etc).

I'm using AFFO$'s paint list and technique. Like the man up there said, you can find all the Fett costuming info that you'll ever need on TDH.

Man Devilstar you are going to have a great "practice" bucket. Who is going to have it on more: you or your boy? :D It is looking great. I agree with you that the repaint made it look fantastic. Keep up the good work, and make sure to add pictures of it when you are done. Those last few steps are going to really make it look good.

Yeah a little hard to "see" what it looked like I bet.

That SF is a nice bucket. I was just starting to shy away from starting a Jango costume, and then you have to go off and show the SF. Now I have to start the Jango. Well maybe. The SF looks nice. I like the deeper cheeks. It gives it a more sinister look, but your other helmet looks great too.

Devilstar2k2
09-21-2006, 02:37 PM
Doing the clean up on it now... Since I'll be buying a BM in the spring, I'm tempted to do a ROTJ paint job on this SF instead. What do you think?

JediMcD
09-21-2006, 03:17 PM
Well Devilstar like I have said before, I really like the ROTJ Fett. I think it is just a nicer look. I think the SF would look good no matter what you painted it, but the ROTJ scheme would look great. Maybe I just favor the red kill stripes. Let me know how it is going on that SF. You could start a new thread documenting the cleaning up of the bucket all the way through to painting. Keep up the good work.

Devilstar2k2
09-21-2006, 07:38 PM
I like the SE Fett myself... But theres no sense in having 2 ESB buckets, imo. So I probably will paint the SF in ROTJ colors.

Devilstar, your awesome man. The level of detail your putting into that helmet, (practice or not) is very impressive. I never realized that there were so many minute details. When you first painted it green and red I was like "Oh its done, thats a cool boba helmet." Man, I had no idea! So keep up the good work, keep posting those pictures. You're a bounty hunter inspiration, you make me want to make a Boba suit too, (which is pretty hard to do, as i am a die hard Jedi). So, congrats man the helmet is sweet.

Devilstar2k2

All I can say is, "wow". Every time I look at the updated pics, that practice helmet keeps getting better and better. :D

I'm very impressed.

By the time you do your "real" helmet, it's gonna be perfect down to the last anal detail!

Too bad it will be lost on "regular" people. But the people really into Boba Fett will definitely appreciate it! 8)

Devilstar2k2
10-04-2006, 12:58 AM
Haven't posted for a bit on this... Well, I've been slacking the past week or so taking a breather from painting...

BUT

I did make some progress today on this costume. Armor made using the WOF templates and a Sterilite trash can.

The shoulder bells, cod pieces, and back plate still need to be heat gunned and formed. The curves that you see there are from the trash cans natural shape. Also, the cod needs the two pieces to be attached and I need to do the jetpack cut outs on the back plate.

Not sure yet if I'm gonna add the dents to the armor yet or not... Probably...

And yes, I know that he's gonna be bobble-headed.

(Don't mind the mess, I've been cutting, sanding, dremeling, painting, etc. in this room and still haven't bothered to clean up. :P )

Still looking good Devilstar. Your little man is going to love that costume. Well, he better after all your work.

I think his helmet will fit for a while, so you will just have to replace armor everytime he hits a growth spurt.

Keep up the good work.

james3
10-04-2006, 06:29 AM
No Snitz! A Trash Can?!? Really? That is incredible. Can this be done for kids Clonetrooper/ Stormtrooper armor as well?

That has to be the most brillant friggin thing I have ever seen. I am just in shock dude. That rocks!

tazrob
10-04-2006, 08:59 AM
James,

The one thing that makes Boba / Jango possible with this method is that there are no real angles, all the armor that you get out of the trash can are the flat surfaces. Because of this fact the simple answer to your question is no not storm or clone, the long answer is it has been done but, you are cutting many pieces and glueing and bondoing to get the different angles like the chest plate on a clone or trooper you would need at least 10 different pieces then you would have to figure out angles and such.

by the way devil thanks for the trashcan lid, lol

JediMcD
10-04-2006, 09:01 AM
I don't think it would work for stormtrooper or clonetrooper armor because, the bends that are in it only match the curves needed for fett armor. You could heat up the plastic though and put more curves in it. I don't know that it would ever get that sculpted look of vac formed plastic. Devilstar may be able to chime in and provide more information.

Do-Clo
10-04-2006, 09:22 AM
James if you are not going for a super accurate set of armor for a kid then you should be able to pull it off, but it will be alot of work to get the curves and shapes bent and fit together.

james3
10-04-2006, 10:05 AM
I am up for anything at this point. Last year for Halloween he had the Rubies setup with the little face mask and spandex suit. If there wasn't an age requirement I would bet he would have already built up his armor and tried to get in the 501st. :D

In looking at what you did with the Boba armor I follow what your saying with the angles and all. I didn't even think about that.

Devilstar2k2
10-04-2006, 11:31 AM
James,

I have no idea... I haven't looked at any troops armor... I doubt that it will work for anything that has any molded detail unless you rig up the misc. parts and Bondo the seams. You'd basically be scratch building at that point. I can tell you this though, scratch building is a hell of alot cheaper than buying finished goods. The trash can was only $10.84, while a finished unpainted kids Boba kit on eBay is $60 + $20 shipping. ;)

Tazrob,

Yeah dude, my hand is killing me... I finished this all in one sitting when I got home last night. Now I know why your clone still isn't finished. Ouch. I can barely move my hand today.

Devilstar2k2

you should see the rest of the armor painted, looks real good.

Devilstar2k2
10-10-2006, 10:47 PM
You mean these...? ;)

The gauntlets, stickers, and helmet need weathering. Also, we haven't cut/sewn his 'vest' yet. Its just folded under for the pic. I know the stickers are huge on his little armor... But what can I do, he's barely 5 years old, ya know? Besides, the helmet is gonna be HUGE on him. I guess we're going for a cartoonish Fett this year. :D

No pics of the cod or knees yet... Still in progress... His cape and belt haven't arrived yet.

Where did you find the little gaunts? That stuff looks awesome. He will love it I am sure. I like the stickers looking big on the armor. If they were scaled to the armor you wouldn't be able to tell what they were. That is just my opinion though.

Devilstar2k2
10-12-2006, 04:23 AM
The gauntlets came in the POTF kit. I bought the kit for those, and the gun. The rest of it just got jumbled into his toy box, and will never be seen again... lol...

It was kind of a miracle too... Those kits are selling for $60+ on eBay, and I got mine from there for $9.99. Slapped some paint on the gun/gaunts, and they're good to go.

Shawn came over tonight and we test fitted everything so far that was done with duct tape. Looks pretty good. I think shawn is hoping that the cod and knees will pull the rest of it together when they are finally finished and set it off but I think the jet pack, if he decides to do it, will make it come together.

10-19-2006, 07:08 AM
Thanks guys... I really gotta thank Tazrob for the use of all of his tools... And Mrs. Tazrob for helping me out with a decent sized set of Wookie scalps. :)

Its hard to tell from the pics cuz the flash was on, but everything is alot grungier than it looks. A bunch of the detail got washed out- dirt, darkness, etc. Some of the colors look off in these too, but I'll be posting a ton of daylit pics whenever the costume is finally finished (damned knees and cod, can't seem to get around to them... lol...). Should be done tonight or tomorrow at the latest. This stuff looks so awesome in person. I'll try to do video too to get the total effect.

Also, the helmet in the pics looks like its just sitting on his shoulders. In reality, I padded the hell out of that helmet. It sits a good 2 inches above his shoulders and is tight to his head. Watching him walk and look around is just awesome... Total bobble head.

james3

HEHEHE.

A trick I learned with my camera is to use the "night" flash. It does this really weird strobe thingy but the pics I tend to get inside are a little closer to what I am actually seeing. May be worth a shot if you have that option.

Devilstar2k2
10-19-2006, 07:16 AM
Between my Fuji, and Robs Sony, I'm sure we'll get it worked out... Thanks for the tip though, I'll see if I can figure out how to do that. The Fuji's night setting is a long exposure... I've tried the flash with it and it just craps out and blurs. What you described sounds sort of like the red eye filter, I'll mess around later and see what happens.

A new camera is on my wish list. We just have a little HP that came with my laptop and it is ok at best. The problem I face is that I have a 35mm Canon SLR setup that I have built up over the years and my wife does not seem to see the justification to "upgrade" my body. :(

Added a pic (to the original post) of the new bucket that I did for my son... ROTJ style. More details can be seen here:

Also, his JP got a better paintjob in the ROTJ style... Pics sometime soon... ;)

other than washing them in hot water a few times, maybe adding a little bleach in them.

Great costume...

RIT makes a fabric lightener, that might work.

EDIT-

No knee armor?

what is RIT?  also I have not done the knee armor yet. I may make it but do not know if I will use it.

Rit is a brand of fabric dye, but they also make a color lightener. I guess techinically its a color remover, but it will work for your purpose. Try using just a little... If too much color comes out, you can always re-dye it with the color that you want.

Also, as long as I'm here, I may as well post the repaint of my sons JP... Its the same one as last year, but now with the ROTJ scheme. I think I'm gonna make a more accurate missle for it though. Got him a mini SGB Boba suit/vest to go with it too... I'll post pics when all of the upgraded stuff gets here.

T-Bone

If you want to get one from him, you might wanna catch up with him soon... He said that hes gonna stop making them for a bit until he gets a chance to make a new mold.

Thanks for the info. I might have to get one of those buckets for my daughter. She's only 14 month but already likes to play with dad's props... particularly the lighted saber ones.

what is the thing made out of any way? did yours have a bit of warpage? what would you say is the best way to fill the dent? I am going to make it a jango not boba.

Its resin... Yeah, its a little warped in the back but I left it alone. The way it is it has more room front to back. My sons nose is a little squished as it is when he wears it. To fill the dent, just use Bondo.

how old/tall is your son? mine is 6 but on the smaller side in his class. I want to know what I am going to work with when it comes to fitting him. I may have to heat it up and re shape it a bit so that it fits.

My son turned 5 in December, and is also on the small side. He's about 40 inches tall. His head measures 21 inches around (on an angle, right where a baseball hat's edge would be).

That's a good looking bucket he's got! What a lucky kid! I'd love to make one for my son, but he's having too much fun with his Jedi costume and lightsaber.
