Hi, I tried a forum search but couldn't get any hits on this one so I wanted to ask, what is the difference between a standard style switch and guarded style switch hilt in the MHS? Again, apologies if this was asked before but I looked and couldn't find an answer.

standard switch style is for the switches with the nut on the outside of the hilt.
guarded switch style is for the switches with nut on the inside of the hilt.

Thanks, Bato. I appreciate the input. That'll help a lot for where I go with my design.

This: http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/SPST-Momentary-switch-with-red-button-P42.aspx is a Standard Switch, the nut goes on top to secure it.

This: http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/SPST-Latching-Guarded-switch-with-silver-button-P255.aspx is a Guarded Switch, the nut goes on the bottom to secure it.

And then there are the Anti Vandals: http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/16mm-Anti-Vandal-Latching-Blue-Ring-Switch-P705.aspx which also get nutted from the bottom.

Now within each switch type there are Momemtary and Latching. A momentary springs back up when you push it, unless you hold it down. On a simple circuit it would only close the circuit when held down. A latching switch clicks into position and stays until you click it again, much like the button on a retractable pen. Which switch you need depends on your electronics set up.

Thanks Darkar. I'm looking at those Anti Vandals and they're pretty intense. I guess I'd need to have the hilt bored out to a specific size to fit that though, wouldn't I?

There are two sizes of anti vandals, long and short. The long ones require either a bezel or an activation box, the short ones can be used in activation boxes or a recessed hole directly on the hilt. Any option you choose that is not a standard or guarded will require a special drilling option that can be found in the services section of the store. So if you wanted a recessed short AV, you would choose whatever hilt you want, and then add the appropriate service to change the hole.
