Hi guys: DO you like the wide neck in the MR Luke ROTJ lightsaber? Well neither do I. So I started a project in a CAD software to get the piecees that I need to build to have this look:
http://img82.imageshack.us/img82/6052/rotjlukeelitelightsaberzd0.jpg
I din't finish it but this is what I have right now:
http://img66.imageshack.us/img66/5182/jedi1ae1.png
http://img212.imageshack.us/img212/5642/jedi2bv2.png
I've used some free templates and drawings that I've found on the web. Today I will finish the control box of the first one (Luke ROTJ) and the next week I will have all the drawings of all the pieces with dimentions, tolerances, and ready to machine them. The second one (graflex) will be finished later. Both are "Luxeon-led-ready"...So what do you think?

Do you want to spend a long time learning it?[:p] He's using Inventor vs straight AutoCAD too.

I understand the goal of making the "nipple" sort of thing at the top, but I don't think it makes it any better. Also what is the point of machining a graflex? It'd be cheaper to buy one... unless you want the ROTS look, but that's not a graflex.

nice designs luis [^]
one thing though, i don't think there are supposed to be holes in the emmiter ring like you have, that was only on the obi wan saber [;)]

Private Pyle, why do you always point out fault in other peoples work[?]

I think it looks cool and the whole idea on design is to do it the way you like it.

Awsome designs Luis.

I like the Graflex look as well but want something one piece and smaller. Look forward to seeing how it goes.

Maul, I grow tired of your constant need to argue with everyone.

Luis is doing the same thing we all do and that is make CUSTOM lightsabers. If you feel so compeled to nit pick a mans work then would you please do one of the following:

1- Show your collection of lightsabers that you have built from scratch that are 100% movie perfect with License from Lucas.

2- Stick with your board that deals with the Master Replicas pieces.

You have proven that you like to cause stress and frustration on this forum and quite frankly if your not interested in growing up and acting like a person who would like to be respected in your opinions then there is really nothing more I care to read from you. I am done with you unless you are willing to show some decent manners.

edit- Serious guys I am done with this.

...ok...Well... back on topic, luis, I really like your idea. I, for one, hate that big bulky MR design. I think its the ugliest and cheapest looking of their line. Im glad someone is finally doing something to make a better looking Luke RoTJ LED saber. I say bravo luis, bravo. I cant wait to see how it turns out.

Live the dream Luis!
I thought about doing my Luke ROTJ capable of handling a blade and electronics - but I found it too difficult to have it that way. I can't wait to see how your progresses!

i would think that with a 1/8 inch blade the saber would tip over too much but i think a short 1/16 inch blade would work good. good luck on this luis!

Here's a pic of my arc-wave, I'm about to convert it to LED which is why its stripped.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/yoiaholic/luke1.jpg

It holds a 3/4 inch blade and the proportions look really good in my opinion. If you were to settle for a 3/4 inch blade you would have a VERY nice looking hilt.

Thanks to all you guys (I mean it Lord Maul) I need all your opinions, that's why I posted those pics. Please don't fight unless you are in a lightsaber duel.

Lord Maul: I like the holes that were in the Obi Wan emitter so I putted them, maybe to fancy...I don't know..... I plan to have two emitters, one with the blade and the other one without it, only to show the hilt in my belt...you know, for the kids (if you don´t finish your meal I will turn on my lightsaber)

Xwingband: For the graflex I will use 1.5" OD 316 SS. (sanitary pipe not sink tube) to draw the templates, I don't plan to machine all the hilt, only the holes and the main details (I'm sure that all of you have graflex templates).

Darth Sequentius: Cad software is a very powerful tool, not only for saber building but also some of my regular work. It is very easy to learn, I learned in a month during the university. I remember some older guys that spends entire weeks to draw by hand some designs for an assignment. Then a year later I needed to make those designs for the same subject (mechanical design 01). I learned it by my self because I have in my mind the faces of all those guys that I saw without sleeping, taking a bath or changing clothes. The drawing tables look like a war zone, wit all the deads spreaded..ha ha ha. Thanks guys. I soon as I have more pictures, I will post them.bye

The Obi looks better with it even though it's not accurate to the actual prop.

I think your designs look great. The extended emmiter also makes the blade much more stable.

great design luis, although you may want to think about making your emitter slightly longer to allow more room for the blade to seat, then you could use a button head hex screw or similar for a blade retention so as not to need the extra piece... btw what are you thinking for lighting?

luis rojas
11-16-2006, 12:39 PM
Hi guys...the parts will be here (in my office) in one hour. Thanks for your words. I will use 3 allen bolts to tight the blade to the extensión that you see appart. That will allow me to unscrew the extensión without loose the blade. Also ,the appearance of the hilt alone will be exactly like the ones in the movies. I will use luxeon leds for the light (from Tim) and a Hasbro sound board from an old count Dooku saber.

PICTURES... There are still missing some pieces, but you gotta see this:

http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/9012/dsc07369rz5.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

http://img57.imageshack.us/img57/3075/dsc07371bz7.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Of course there's a lot to do with the sand paper and the paint, but I think that those sabers will be great. Maybe I will send them to Master Replicas and ask for a position there... ha ha ha...

Those are awsome. Are they EL?

did you read the first couple pages?? they clearly say that it is a led saber. that is why the emitter is so long. that way luis got a thiner neck. you know how everyone hates the mr fat necks

Ya, I wander if tim could make the skinny part an option? those would be cool.

Lord Maul
12-28-2006, 05:13 PM
there's always the custom work fee :D
if you have the skinny part then you will have the extra long emitter as well. if you didn't have the emitter length then the blade would only have a couple cm to sink into. and, that thing is really hard to make with how the whole system is set up

Eruialsul
12-28-2006, 06:04 PM
Yeah, but the longer emitter doesn't look bad at all, and it's not all that noticeable unless someone points it out.

Lord Maul
12-28-2006, 11:56 PM
very true...i guess it depends on how much you want to spend and if you mind the extended emitter. personally, i would have no problem buyin that baby
