Tim, I just noticed that on the hilt part listing, you state that 4AA and 8AA packs do not fit. Does that mean that all others will, including a 9v battery?

Yes. The 4aaa or 9v will fit fine. You could also wire up 2 of the 4aaa packs for longer run time. I have some 4aa rechargeable packs that will fit nicely also but I am still looking for a decent charger to offer for them.

Well, after much 'net searching, I can find no 5-cell 6v NiMH packs in the proper configuration for the MHS. I think I will construct a pack myself, once I get a 6v charger.

I have 20 packs here, I have just been too busy to find a decent charger.

So is there a difference in brightness between a 9v and a 4aaa pack?

Strydur

For EL there would be..but not for LED

So which provides the brighter lumination, the 9v pack or the AAA pack?

Strydur

For LED or EL?????

For LED..there is none
For EL..the more voltage the brighter so
8AAA or 8AA is brighter than 9v
9v is brighter than 4AAA or 4AA

Whats the actually SIZE of the 4AA & 4AAA packs? Like in inches? That would be a nice bit of info to add to the description of the item.

For the 4AAA, I believe it's 2" x 1" x 1". At least, that's what mine is, and it looks exactly like the one Strydur is selling. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I think its more like 4" x 1" x 1" (2 of yours in one.) I got mine in the mail yesterday, and boy it is smaller then I thought, but still lights up a room.

A company called Duratrax makes some awesome chargers. I use their Intellipeak pulse charger for my airsoft batteries. They're an 8 AA NimH setup. The chargers use standard RC car connectors. The only downside to these is they're fairly expencive. My charger cost me $60, although it was well worth it for how much I use the thing.

if anyone's interested.

Maybe someone wants to point this information out to photonalterations.
In their ebay ADs they mention that replacing the MR 3AA cell pack with a 4AAA cell
one makes the Luxeon brighter[8]

(it would save them the trouble of switching to the 4 packs and just reuse the 3's)

I think they are actually referring to the amount of amperage and not voltage. While they might be right that they get more amperage to the LED by swapping it out I cant tell the difference by looking at the two. 4AA or 3AA in a MR looks exactly the same to me.

Ranger, you mentioned big difference in run time on LED from 9V to multiple AA or AAA batteries.
is this with or without sound, and do you have time estimates?
just curious

I believe he meant 9V of AA or AAA because a plain 9V battery is not good for LED sabers.

Well, yes.

I'm not sure why I specified LED, but a 9v (rechargeable) is usually no more than 900 mAh (and those are high-end), whereas AA rechargeables can be up to 2500 or maybe even 2700 mAh. That means that the AA have longer run time. But AAs together for a 9v pack will obviously be much larger than a single 9v.

I hope this makes sense.

hey guys, let me know if youd be interested in this. I was in a specialty battery store that spot welds packs then shink wraps them to custom specs. so I ordered a 5 pack of quad A batteries at 2500 mah Nimh. according to my measurements of one in the store it should come out to 1 in & 3/4 long by less than 1.5 in diameter. very small at 6v w/ 2500 mah. and it seems that more are available. no that is not a misprint there is a quad A battery. should fit nicely in a 7 in long hilt light dagger I'm building. should be in a few days. I'll let you know how it turns out.

You must have a mistake somewhere... 4AA of NiMH is not 6V. 4AA doesn't physically fit in an MHS either.

Dang xwing, rough week at school bud? I think he is saying AAAA size.

Oh and don't tell my MHS that, It holds 4AA (http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/sabers/Scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=187) just fine. :P

What type of 4AA do you have??? In a square pattern they simply don't fit.

Very rough week of school though. I had final presentations today. I had good feedback so I'm stoked... but tired.

Congrats man. I know how much of a B that can be. I actually only did a short session this quarter so that I would be free through this month.

You know what kind of 4AA I use.

But yes, a 4AA square just ain't gonna get it done unless your up in a sink tube.

No james has it right its an AAAA battery. its about an inch and a 3/4 long. smaller diameter than a AAA. in a circular pack with 5 batteries in it, spot welded and shrunk wrapped to a total diameter of inch and a 1/4 or so. small enough to fit inside the mhs, powerful enough to run a 3w led and soundboard. when it comes in I'll post the pick. also Wikipedia has the specs on the alkaline version including sizes of these. they are fairly new.

Yeah, pretty new to retail. We used them on some cameras and such a few years ago, that was the reason I knew what you were talkin about bud.

I had a H/I LED pen light 5 years ago that ran off of AAAA's. The pen broke 4 years ago, but I still have 6 of them hanging aroud. Cool Batteries!
