Seems like you have your wires crossed at your recharge port.

The switch in the port breaks the negative (ground - ) wire from the battery pack to your saber electronics, not the positive.

Unless I am reading your diagram wrong, which I could be.

What he said.. Read the manual

You're way off. Go here, http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/Petit-Crouton-Sound-Module-V20-P612.aspx, and download the PC2.0 Owner's Manual. Turn to page 10, and study the wiring diagram on that page.

so, from what i understand from reading the manual, this is what it should be like?

Nope.

You aren't gettng the switching with that diagram.

If you hook up your power supply to the recharge port, you're gonna fry your electronics with it like that.

Here's a quick sketch of what it should be...

No, you are bridging the negative from the battery pack to the electronics... let the power plug be the switch.

Can you not see this?

Don't ACTUALLY wire across those two terminals. that is just illustrating which two terminals are switched.

remove the wire connecting the 2 negatives at recharge port

I'm sorry sloth, please don't get frustrated, this is the very first time I've messed with any electronics... that said, Like this?

I am not frustrated, I was just making sure you could see the image.

I think you have it now, that should work.

MAKE SURE YOU SOLDER TO THE CORRECT LEADS ON THE JACK. That part is pivotal and crucial. Just follow that photo from the plecter site that I linked. Or my drawing, whichever is clearer.

Make sure you orientate the jack exactly like the picture, with the middle prong on bottom, this must be battery negative. The right hand prong must be the positive for both battery and electronics. The left hand prong must be electronics negative. This propper orientation is critical to getting this set up correctly. The way you keep drawing your diagram you can't tell if you middle prong is facing the bottom or the top, and makes it look to me like you are wiring it backwards.

thanks, I'll make sure I wire it that way.

EDIT: so for any more electronics, I keep the current flowing in a loop, with the negative of any electronics ahead of the recharge port flowing back to electronics negative, right?

Correct.

ok, cool. now for the charger, is there some special charger I have to but from radio shack that plugs into an outlet?

Whatever is appropriate for the item. There are specific Nimh and Li ion chargers with specific voltages. Match your type and voltage and you should be good.

Many people use the "Smart Charger" sold at this store.

would this work? USB Charger (http://www.powermax.com/parts/show/sta-usb2typem?utm_source=Google%2BProduct%2BSearch&utm_medium=Referral&utm_campaign=Google%2BProduct%2BSearch&src=g&gclid=CL_JqqHE4rACFQkaQgodnjyu3A)

Depending on whether your pack is 3.7v or 7.4v, that USB charger is a little too high or a little too low (5v). Best to get the li-ion smart charger.

Also, FYI, a port wired up with jst connectors. I realize it's a bit late but I thought a photo of one would be more helpful than diagrams. (except the penciled in schematic that sloth provided)(which was really cool)

ahh, I see.
and what if I found a 7.4 usb charger?

DarkarNights

I think you may be barking up a wrong tree looking at USB solutions to charge your batteries. BTW, you haven't identifeid what batteries you will be using, that information would help lead you in the right direction. And you really can't go wrong by choosing a charger from the shop, it's why they are there, because they work well for the application.

USB only provides 5v at 500-900 mA.

Get one of the chargers in the shop and don't look for cheaper shortcuts. :)

Hey Tim, if you read this I think it would be a great idea if that hand drawn picture of the recharge port that SlothFurnace posted on the first page was put up in the store page of the recharge port so all the newbies shopping for it will know how to wire it. SlothFurnace did a great job with that picture.

yea, I'm thinkin so. I'm going for a 7.4 mainly cause I want a longer operation(I'll be using this for my films) so imma buy the smart charger.

:P ok, ok. lol my mom is a tightwad, guess she rubbed off on me a little.

I like that idea. just a picture of the power jack and words saying what to do don't really cut it. I vote for them to do that!

EDIT: You're not talking to me are you? lol O.O

How it would be if there is no electronics? I have a battery pack (3 li-ion in series, 2300mah each) and a 12 volt charger that gives 850ma, can I connect it to the battery directly to charge?

i think 11.1v li-ion charges at 12.6v? id have to look it up. i have no idea what leds you are gonne be powering with 12v though! what do you have planned? but essentially the recharge port diagram should work fine. i believe what most ppl do for hilts with no sound is replace the board connections here with your switch/led.

ps. im super happy this old thread got dug up so everyone can admire slothfurnaces amazing recharge port illustration. it belongs in a museum
