View Full Version : I finally got my ROTS Mace

Grouch

I have to say I think it is the coolest of the 3 I have. ROTJ Vader and ROTS Anikin. Like I've been reading the blade isnt really purple and the switch easily turned off. Maybe its just because its new. But it feels really nice in the hand and is just flat out cool.

I picked it up on ebay from the seller starworldtoys. I would recomend them to you guys.

I just got my ROTS mace in the mail, NIB from ebay, the lights are totally messed up. First of all the blade is blue, not just a little bluish purple, i mean blue, except for a thin violet stripe up the side of it, and u can see the spaces between the leds going up the blade, WTF!! Luckily im converting it to a K2, but still its the principal of the matter!

I have yet to see a stock MR that didn't have spots where the joints in the banks of leds were. That's why we convert em[;)]

Grouch the hardest thing to do in a conversion is admiting that you are worried about breaking something or doing it wrong. After you accept that everything else is all good with the awesome snitz from Tim.

Grouch to Quote Rob Schnieder " YOU CAN DO IT" trust me once you finish the conversion you will be so happy that you did. I went to the Hollywood Bowl last Saturday to see John William perform and a bunch of us brought lightsabers, but most of them were stock MR's and people kept asking my friends if they bought them here. But when they asked me about mine a Sink Tube custom using Tim's Lux Kit and I told them that I built it, they went nuts, so of course I mentioned the CSS Site is the Place to start and there is just no greater satisfaction knowing you built it.
So far I have been lucky with my ROTS Ani no dark spots, but once the blade dies, it get's converted. [8D]

yah, except my pink tube inside my mace blade is doing absolutely jack. Straight out of the box it was blue, not even remotely purple. So instead of playing with it and waiting for my conv kit to come, I just took it apart and got it all ready for K2 conversion.

Bob I know this seems silly as snitz but if you use Heavy Duty batteries you get a closer to purple color. Of course as your alkalines go down the purple comes in too.

The one unconverted Mace that I have is purple but towards the blue side.

So, what color you converting it to?

I wonder if there is a difference between indivudal sabers.
I have an unconverted Mace, and it auctally looks purple, except for some faint reddish-tint lines on 2 sides of the blade, and ofc, when you look down the tip, its blue. You can tell where the lights are, but not that they are the worng color or anything.

Wait a minute, so you're saying that master replicas is using blue leds with a red defusor to make their blade purple?[:0]

Is the blade red when you shut it off? And why didn't they just use ultra violet leds or something?

Lord Maul
09-09-2006, 09:30 AM
yes they use a blue led and a red foam to make their blades purple. the blade isn't red because there is still a white diffuser inbeetween the foam and poly C. they don't use uv because they need to be powered off a 9V battery and i don't believe you can have sound with them

You got it. I am sure there is a reason for their using what they use.

I have seen the redline look as well, I think that while there may be some variations it is also a matter of how each of us percieves light and color as well.

EDIT- this post was in response to Phantom and any post made while posting I am not aware of.

I don't know where to start with how wrong those statements are... have you learned nothing?

You can power LED's with ANY size power source provided that you resistor them properly and meet the minimum of power requirements. That being said... the little 5mm UV lights could be powered by a lot smaller of a source and add sound.

I bet you are going off Do-Clo's auction... it's a stunt (no sound by choice) and 9V probably because he bloody felt like it. Even so he could add a voltage regulator and pop in sound should he want to.

Well Private Pyle, you really need to think before typing that way you don't end up with your foot in your mouth, unless you really like the taste of your foot.

I use a custom designed (my design) constant current source to power 5mm leds, and it will operate on as low as 6 volts and up to 15 volts with the current remaining the same to the led. So as the battery begins to run down the leds are still the same brightness.

Private drop and give me 50 push ups

Their = MR, meaning he waas refering to the diffuser... not the electronics. Do-Clo does have a reason, but he could just like EL use a regulator or even drop it to 6V. There is always a way for sound... it's just not as convinient sometimes.

The whole idea behind that uV saber was to use spare parts. I removed the sound board for a custom saber, so I recycled the remaing parts to make another custom saber.

The whole reason that MR uses blue leds and a red diffuser to make purple is that their are no purple leds made. The uv leds have a purple color but cost more than the leds that MR uses. MR already had blue led strips so the most cost effective thing for them to do was to use a red diffuser to make purple.

OK i know that this only kind of fits this topic, but i figured better here than starting a new topic. But has anyone seen the new toy lightsabers that light up with sound? They have a mace windu one which looks pretty freakin pathetic. They have a picture on the box of mace with the saber he uses in ep 2 and 3, the gold and black one with which we are all familiar. However, inside the box is a saber that resembles more of the style of hilt seen in ep 1. Its grey with a pommel the same shape as Darth Mauls emitter, but the blade is still purple. Wheres the quality control? How does Lucas just approve these like that? WTF??!! Is it so much harder just to make it passably accurate? I mean theyre already huge and stupid looking to begin with (especially with the length of blade that does not retract) is it too much to ask that these toys look like the sabers they claim to emulate? I know my feelings are strong on the topic, what do you guys think? Has anyone else seen these?

Firebird21

I have one from my cousins. Its not new or at least the one I have isn't. Its actually a version of Luminara Unduli's saber. Several others have used it as well. Mace had promotional photos taken during and after episode I with that saber.

james3
09-13-2006, 05:15 AM
Are you guys talking about the Hasbro?
If that's the case then that has been around for a while. I have one in the box fron EPII still. Like Yoi said that is a clan saber and was one of a few that were considered Mace sabers. He can also be spotted in the movie with another clan saber and then books will get the issue even more blurred.

SilentBob501
09-13-2006, 11:16 AM
Oh I know its a clan saber, and that hes seen with it in promotional photos for ep 1, my problem is that not only does it say ep. 3 on the box, there is a picture, on the box, of mace holding his gold and black saber. Thats messed up!

*grumbles* Stupid lazy cheap hasbro execs!

Just another example of merchandising. Time to start getting everything out in new boxes to sell for Christmas time. I enjoy wathing how the repackage everything over and over. The Darth Vader saber has been around for like 10 years now and they just keep cranking it out. Ya gotta love that.
