ok, ive just recieved a new mhs saber in the mail a couple days ago, and i took apart my vader ffx speaker out of the battery pack, i wired it up and everything was fine until i soldered the connections together, it just went dead. the thing just refused to work after that. im using a green lux 3w running off of 6v. here is an illustration of my connectionhttp://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l227/hydralics51/7441.jpg

You have a soldered connection that is contacting something it shouldn't and grounding out. I am not sure of your drawing there but are you running power to the speaker? That won't help out very much.
Look at your solder spots and see if there was any run over.

Yeah I was wondering about that drawing, too, the speaker's supposed to get it's power from the board, not the battery.

In that drawing it doesn't look like it's hooked up to both speaker leads coming from the sound board.

I do believe that the speaker is connected directly to the speaker, I don't feel like ripping one apart right this moment but the fact that there are only 3 connections on the Speaker/Battery pack tells me that there is 2 for S/B power and one for the Speaker... The other side of the speaker must then connect to the battery pack.

Try swapping the polarity on the speaker. Usually the Ground (- side) is attached and the common on a speaker hookup, and judging by the colors on your drawing you have the "+" attached to the speaker.

Reverse the leads to the speaker and see if that works. But I must note, if it doesn't work right away, don't keep trying, you may damage something, but if it's hooked up wrong, than that damage, if any, may have already occurred.

Good luck.

Ok, bear with me...

I'm going to edit this a couple of times...

I have my Vader Bat/Pak appart... And am examining it.

Judging by the photos, it appears that you have/had (noticing the speaker is now out) it wired correctly....

What is that silver stuff? Is it cunductive?

Edit: Is this the way you last had it hooked up? When you made it crackle?

His original diagram was correct. There is a speaker wire and it splits the positive. Everything looks to be fine... other than the metric ton of solder and hotglue. You really need to switch to 4.5V or 4.8V (rechargeables) though. Keeping it close to the original will drive the green perfectly.

God... I need to make a soldering tutorial or at least pictures of good soldering. You all look like you solder with a torch and use a whole coil of wire for one saber.[:0]

If that's the way you have it wired, there must be a bad connection. According to this diagram (pardon the grafiti) you have it correct.

http://www.yankeetoys.org/lee/W-FXSoundMute.jpg

I'm wondering if there isn't a bad connection under that glob of Hot Glue...

Yours were fine for what they were showing but there's solder all the way over the wire... I can't imagine being able to do that without bubbling the wire from keeping the iron there too long.[:0]

More is not always better and I think a lot need better irons. You would be able to pull that off if your iron was really hot. It'd only take a touch to get enough solder.

I'm afraid he fried something with that much glue. I think it's borked.[xx(] Moderation with all things hot! Glue and Solder.

Yes I agree!

My Iron is a POS-9000.

That's one of the reasons I've been tinning the wire first. It just works better for me than sitting there trying to heat up twice the wire with 1/2 the heat.[xx(]

Again, I do not proclaim to know what I'm doing when it comes to soldering, but I do have a working knowledge, and it works well for me.

My problem isn't too much solder, I use way too much wire. It can be a mess when you have long wires all tangled in the hilt.

You're not really the police of the forum so there is no need to add comments. Do what you are doing and they'll continue what they are doing.

There is a purpose behind saying "PM sent". It's a double layer of protection, it lets them know they have one and can tell if it didn't get through. On other forums it's used a lot to call "dibs" on stuff.
