So are you guys gonna run out and get the "unaltered" version of the original trilogy on DVD? What do you think about that? Do you like the "improvements," or do you like the "old standard."

It's Star Wars and I am a moth to the Lucas flame. Already have it on pre-order, as for which version well, I like both. I have no problem leaving things to my imagination but at the same time I don't mind GL going back and saying this is what was in my head what do you think.

Really both versions have their ups and downs. The original highlights good filmmaking with no money and tells a riviting story. Trus classic filmmaking. The remakes give you all the visual wow! And let's be realistic for a second, if we didn't ALL like visual wow then we would not be here all trying to build a better brighter lightsaber.

I was all set to get them (probably still will) until I seen this on Digital Bits:

8/24/06

Also today... a follow-up on something we've been telling you to expect for quite while now. 2007, as you may well be aware, is the 30th anniversary of the original Star Wars' debut in theaters. You'd have to be stupid not to know that Lucasfilm is going to have big DVD release plans with which to celebrate the anniversary, and we've been telling you that was the case for many months now. Indeed, during our last visit to the Ranch for the DVD release of Episode III, producer Rick McCallum confirmed that a box set of all six films was going to happen eventually, and animation director Rob Coleman even let it slip that the puppet Yoda from Episode I had already been replaced with a new CG Yoda to match Episodes II & III for the "future" release. T-Bone over at Star Wars Universe recently speculated about this box set, and we've been quietly checking in with our industry sources on it as well. Well, we've confirmed it: There IS a big, ultimate, 6-film Star Wars anniversary DVD box set planned for 2007. There will be more changes to the films, and there will be LOTS of new, never-before-seen special features - all the good stuff that was held back by Lucasfilm from the original Trilogy DVD release a few years ago. Think deleted scenes and more. We don't know if good, genuinely-REMASTERED versions of the original theatrical editions of the films will be included or not (though how you could call the set "ultimate" without them, we don't know). We don't expect high-definition versions yet, as those formats are just too new. We don't have ANY other details for you yet, so please don't ask. But as you consider whether or not to purchase the "limited edition" DVDs due on 9/12... we thought you should know that more IS absolutely on the way next year. 'Nuff said for now

Not to sure about this but MAN I have so many copies of these movies they are gonna need their own room soon.

I think I'm gonna be a Rebel Fleet Trooper at a store in Hollywood. We are going to have a Princess Leia, so she needs at least one Rebel escort. [8D]

This is a 501st event, but they want a few Rebels to balance things out (not as much fun bein' a bad guy without a few good guys to kick around, right? [;)] ). I'm sure I'll be outnumbered by Storm Troopers. [:p]

I will be - but then I'm old (school) [;)]

What annoys me is people pitching this as 'Star Wars - The way it was meant to be seen'. The whole idea behind the 'Special Editions' was that they were able to use technology to create effects which, at the time, weren't possible. Thus making it 'the way it was meant to be seen'.

Why can't this just be 'Star Wars - The way it was when we were 8'?

Yes but you can get your tommorrow night and also Lego 2 will be availible at the same time. This is for anybody out this way:

quote:

Ok... I'm sure many of you have made plans to go buy your OT DVD, somewhere near you. But I have been informed that the 501st Legion will make an appearance in the Virgin Megastore on Hollywood Blvd on Sept 11, for the midnight release on the 12. I have been told that some storm troopers will be there taking pics and hanging around. Now they "might" have some giveaways, but they are still in the process of making anything final. What I have been told is that they are confirmed to be there and to keep checking the web site. (323) 769-8520 - press 1 to buy pass the recording.

AlderaanBase will be representing near Hartford CT. We'll be at FYE in the Buckland Hills mall on the 12th at 6pm. Also in Connecticut, expect to see the 501st ConnSquad at the Best Buy in Newington! They'll be concentrating their efforts in the evening, but should have some kind of presence there all day! I'll share pics as I can.

You know, by buying thse DVDs (which I know you already own at least 5 of each), you have less money to spend on sabers.

What's actually new about these DVDs? They're Unaltered?

Everyone needs to head over to starwars.com and check out the shot by shot comparisons of the original trilogy vs. sp-ed/dvd releases. Its very impressive what they changed/fixed that you probably didnt notice. I, for one, am going to pass on these new dvds, 1. I already own the originals on VHS, and the previously released dvds. And 2. because for the 30th aniv of Star Wars Lucas is releasing a 6 disc box set with a digital yoda in ep 1 instead of the weird mutant muppet yoda.
