Hi, I want to buy a saber but I don't know if I want Led or El. Which is best for dueling? I want realistic and bright look so I think Led. Is that a good decision?

Welcome to the boards. You have picked the most often discussed question here. I have posted in the EL blades thread the difference side by side. If you are looking for a green or blue saber then it is a tough call since EL with a 4khz inverter running at 12 or 18 volts is really quite nice and bright. When you are looking at a red saber I think it is universally agreed that LED is the brighest but again with the EL setup mentioned above red is not to bad. If your tastes run to purple I still think that the EL at 18 volts beats a 3watt white and a filter but I am about to do a side by side comparison with a K2 and a 5watt and that my prove interesting. If you are really in to the electronics side of it then you could play with Do-Clo's UV setup.
Spend some time reading the thread index and FAQ and I bet you will either be more confused or confident about your choices.

OK thanks!

So both are equally good for dueling? Would I be able to wack another saber really hard or tap it?

Thanks!

You need to look at xwingbands video for the answer to that question. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.

Let's see...I think it was...

Yes, both are completely duelable, to the point that the hilt would have to break for it to stop lighting. Even then it's mostly a matter of replacing any broken parts.

Woops. Thanks that was amazing never thought they would hold up is that the 1"OD 3/4"ID 1/8" walled Polycarbonate 40" long?

It's a 3/4" OD 1/2" ID PolyC blade. It's 40" with 4" in the hilt so 36" showing.

That movie is really meant to show how well the tip stays on. It can carry over to showing EL and LED. LED has nothing in the blade so it's exactly like that. If the blade can take it, it will be fine. EL is just wire so there is really nothing you can do to it while it's in the blade for it to break (not light up again).
