Man Uses Light Saber to Attack People at Toys R Us

A man apparently did not follow Yoda’s teachings and went over to the dark side of the force, when he was arrested for attacking people at a Toys R Us with a light saber.

Police in Portland, Ore., arrested 33-year-old David Allen Canterbury after they saw him in the parking lot assaulting several people with the Jedi weapon.

According to The Portland Tribune, the incident began at around 9:51 p.m., at the toy store in the Jantzen Beach Supercenter. Store employees told police they saw a man as he was swinging a toy light saber at customers and that he had assaulted at least three people with the plastic sword.

Then police said the man walked out of the store with the toy and began to harass and assault customers in the parking lot. When officers tried to take the man into custody in the parking lot, he began swinging the light saber and yelling incoherently.

According to the police report, “One officer attempted to use a taser but it was ineffective. A second officer used a taser which made good contact but the suspect used the light saber to break one of the wires.”

The man’s expert light saber skills were put to the test and he was even able to use his light saber to deflect a taser shot. Police officers were eventually able to wrestle the man to the ground and place him in custody. He was treated by medical personnel at the scene was taken to a local hospital for a mental evaluation.

Portland police said Canterbury was in custody at a local hospital and undergoing a mental health evaluation. He was cited with three counts of fourth-degree assault, second-degree disorderly conduct, third-degree theft, and resisting arrest and interfering with a police officer.
