cool...just gotta remove the sound effects at the beginning and end (bummer 'cause they're friggin sweet IMHO but copyrighted nonetheless, and change "lightsaber" to "saber." or could we just say it's spelled "light saber?" removing sound effects would be a lot easier than re-cutting a vocal track)

Yup, totally. The whole black-and blue thing is really cool. It reminds me of the Teaser Trailer for Revenge of the Jedi. (Luke with a blue saber)

And, speaking of "bad azz sabers"..yes, I realize that was a shameless bit of Self-Promo, and I realize that my post-whoredom may or may not be in question, but I did get a shout-out, so there.[:p]I'm qualified to make the above statemtent.

Anyway, I had a chance to visit NYJedi's class yesterday. Not only did I have a great time, but the folks up there were agog in amazement at the quality of the saber and the parts therein.(D/k what "agog" means? look it up, or use your context clues) I immediately put on the "red-light" (Roxanne ref.), started talking up the site, the MHS builder, and the low-cost alternatives to the gent that was up there hawking his products. Don't get me wrong, he's got great stuff, but I think all of us here know the value of building your own.

I didn't necessarily want to start another thread, and I'm sorry to take your "shine", Mi Gin, but the previous postings here were a perfect segue to my point. If only I had some business cards...

Well it seems that this song has made it big time! You know you have a hit when the kids start doing it as a cover tune. My son has started bangin' out the tune on his guitar and asked me to get "the sound" So, I guess you are now a guitar hero so as such if you would like to post any information on equipment and how you get the "Mi Gin Gonn sound" I know a little boy would be happy.

let's see...the left-speaker guitar was a fender telecaster, the right-speaker guitar was a washburn idol...both were ran thru a marshall amp. there's also a third rhythm guitar panned slightly left of center that was the washburn run thru my friend ylber's mesa boogie triple rectifier (it's not that loud in the mix, just there to fill out sonic space and add a little extra "oomph." the song was recorded on analog reel-to-reel 8-track and then bounced to my DAW where it was mastered with a program called T-Racks (awesome program, makes your stuff just as loud as commercially made CD's)

tell the young 'ern the key to a kickass guitar sound is to crank the crap outta the midrange...that's how ya get a nice crunch that cuts right thru the mix. if you kill all the midrange you get that cheesy amateur metal sound. i prefer the crunchy rock sound a la angus young or izzy stradlin.

nothing wrong with that. a lot of the technical metal bands (like Dream Theater and Messugah) don't even live in the same state as each other when they're off tour. thanks to the digital magic of email and .wav files, they collaborate via the web, learn the songs, then get together when it's rehearsal/hit the road time and everybody's on the same page. same thing as handing out sheet music to an orchestra, but more high-tech.

and no, i don't wanna collaborate on anything in this fashion. i got way too much stuff to do as it is. xwing and i were talking about doing a ska song via the web (i'd do the drums/bass/guitar, he'd handle the horn section), but it'd be way too much of a pain in the arse. professional musicians can do it because that's what they do for a living. i work 50 hours a week at a day job...it's a wonder i even got the 1:15-long TCSS Theme Song done as quickly as I did. [:o)]

I love the Boogie it has such a great range of tone. I know most guys these days just look for the "Hetfield/Hammet" setting but there is a lot more to them then that as you well know. My favorite crunch that I get is a cross between an early EVH deepness and a "Who Made Who" ish growl. Like I said before I LOVE Malcolms sound man[:D]

absolutely feelin' ya on the Malcom sound. the best way to get a killer overall guitar sound is to have two of 'em with somewhat different tones (and don't skimp on dat midrange!). a guitar with humbucking pickups combined with a guitar with single coil pickups will get you an excellent mix. re-listen to the TCSS Theme Song on some headphones and you'll hear what i'm talkin' 'bout [8D]

no, actually i've been living a nightmare for the last week and a half, and i've been awake for it.

my mother had me arrested/committed to the looney farm for a 2-week drinking bender i've been on. i was trying to watch "Casino" and have a beer when three sherriff's knocked my door down and cuffed me, threw me in the back of an all steel-gated paddy wagon and took me to some rehab joint.

i escaped (don't ask me how, lol) that night and wound up walking through Grier Heights...the roughtest neighborhood in all of Charlotte. One lone white guy walking by himself at 12:00 at night in an area where they don't take kindly to our kind. Somehow I found a convienence store (with bars on the windows and doors of course) and they let me use their phone. My girlfriend (goddess that she is) called a taxi and had it take me twenty miles to her place.

that night after i got to her place, i fell asleeep, but woke up around 3:00 in the morning. i had a blackout/seizure and fell in her bathrooom, and fractured my spine in two places, either on the sink or the toilet. i don't know, because it's all a f'n blur at this point.

the main point, amigos, is that i'm in bad shape. i have medical bills stacked to the f'n ceiling. thank god my girlfriend (you know, the "sugar momma" lol) hasn't given up on me yet.

at one point, at the second rehab place, i ripped out my IV and escaped (again, don't ask me how) to East Boulevard. after that, i returned, confessed to what i'd done and spent the next six days in rehab. it sucked, but at least the food was decent.

dunno what i'm gonna do at this point. i've got a 401K check coming for well over a grand tomorrow. guess i'll buy some Xmas presents and then figure it out from there.

life sucks right now.
