In this thread, I'll go over specific screencaps from all six movies and try to figure out which LED color is closest to the screencap. Feel free to chime in and give me your opinions, as well.

*All Original Trilogy screencaps are straight from the 2004 "GL's True Vision" DVDs, not the "theatrical version" DVDs.

The Phantom Menace:

Trade Federation Droid Control Ship:
This one looks like a combination of Blue and Royal Blue to me.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/TPM_1.jpg

Trade Federation Droid Control Ship:
Royal Blue.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/TPM_2.jpg

Theed Courtyard:
Royal Blue.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/TPM_3.jpg

Theed Hangar:
Somewhere between Blue and Royal Blue.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/TPM_4.jpg

Theed Generator Room:
The Royal Blue coloring splashes everything in this shot.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/TPM_5.jpg

Theed Generator Core:
Royal Blue, through and through.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/TPM_6.jpg

Overall: Royal Blue.
Although none of my posted pictures show it, Obi-Wan's TPM saber has a thin blue or cyan layer right next to the core, with a Royal Blue edge. Overall, the Royal Blue luxeon is closest to that effect.

Attack of the Clones:

Zam Wesell's speeder:
Royal Blue.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/AOTC_1.jpg

Coruscant nightclub:
I call it "Mystic Blue". Sort of a mix between Blue and Royal Blue, with a unique fading effect.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/AOTC_2.jpg

Jedi Temple:
All the blue youngling sabers are a strong Royal Blue.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/AOTC_3.jpg

Kamino Landing Platform:
The rainy background does some odd things with the color of Obi-Wan's saber. It looks more Bluish in these two pics.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/AOTC_4.jpghttp://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/AOTC_5.jpg

Tusken Raider camp:
It's Blue here...
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/AOTC_6.jpg

Tusken Raider camp:
...yet switches to Royal Blue only a few seconds later.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/AOTC_7.jpg

Geonosis Droid Factory:
Ah yes... more "Mystic Blue"...
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/AOTC_8.jpg

Geonosis Arena:
Plo Koon and Ki-Adi-Mundi's sabers look bluish...
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/AOTC_9.jpghttp://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/AOTC_10.jpg

Geonosis Arena:
...yet others look Royal Blue.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/AOTC_11.jpghttp://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/AOTC_12.jpg

Geonosis Arena:
Okay, these are just here for the cool factor.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/AOTC_13.jpghttp://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/AOTC_14.jpg

Geonosis Arena:
Royal Blue.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/AOTC_15.jpg

Geonosis Arena:
All of the blue sabers in this shot look mystic blue.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/AOTC_16.jpg

Battle of Geonosis:
Royal Blue.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/AOTC_17.jpg

Geonosis Hangar:
Royal Blue.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/AOTC_18.jpg

Overall: Tie between Royal Blue and "Mystic Blue"
Yes, I know "Mystic Blue" isn't an LED color, but that's what it is. It's basically a blade with less color than normal, which alters the way the blade looks.

Revenge Of The Sith:

CIS Command Ship:
This entire sequence is consistently Royal Blue
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/ROTS_1.jpg
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/ROTS_2.jpg
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/ROTS_3.jpg
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/ROTS_4.jpg
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/ROTS_5.jpg
^Man, I hated that guy. so glad he's dead. :D^

Utapau:
The color here oddly changes to blue.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/ROTS_6.jpg

Outside the Jedi Temple:
Ah, but here we once again have Royal Blue. We missed you.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/ROTS_7.jpg

Mustafar:
Once again, we have complete consistency. Royal Blue all the way.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/ROTS_8.jpg
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/ROTS_9.jpg
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/ROTS_10.jpg

Overall: Royal Blue! Wow, for once Lucas actually pulled through and gave us a near-unwavering saber color. It's a shade lighter than straight RB, so a low-bin Blue luxeon should work great.

A New Hope:

Obi-Wan's house:
This one looks pretty bluish, with a hint of cyan.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/ANH_1.jpg

The Cantina:
Somewhere between Blue and Royal Blue.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/ANH_6.jpg

Millennium Falcon:
GREEN?!?!?
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/ANH_2.jpg

Millennium Falcon:
Somewhere between white and cyan.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/ANH_3.jpg

Millennium Falcon:
Very cyan-looking to me.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/ANH_4.jpg

Death Star:
Royal Blue.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/ANH_5.jpg

Overall: A very light Blue or Cyan for Luke, and Royal Blue for Obi-Wan.

The Empire Strikes Back:

Hoth rescue:
Blue, although it's hard to see through the background.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/ESB_4.jpg

Battle of Hoth:
Blue.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/ESB_5.jpg

Tree Cave:
Bluish-cyan.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/f27bac7e.jpg

Tree Cave:
Blue.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/192e4965.jpg

Bespin:
Royal-Blue.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/ESB_3.jpg

Overall: Blue, although most of the final duel was Royal Blue. A low bin Blue should be just right.

Revenge of the Jedi teaser trailer*

Jabba's Sail Barge:
Looks multi-toned; difficult to tell. However, it has the signature cyan-core-with-dark-blue-edge that only Royal Blue has.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/NightWing726/Lightsabers/ROTJ_1.jpg

Overall: Royal Blue, but it's honestly just too badly drawn to know for sure.

*The blue blade was changed to green because, as the picture shows, the color washed out against the Tatooine sky, and became nearly invisible.

Ultra does a lot of bussiness so he went to great lengths to get what he considers good bins. I agree too that that cap from the iconic scene is not completely cyan as we normally say. Thus Ultra's choice of a low binned blue (can't remember if he said bin 1 or 2) for "Sunrider's Destiny" is spot on.

You managed to catch a lot of the crappy shots from the OT too.[:D] At least they could keep some straight. Obi is consistantly a royal blue.[:)]

Heh, yeah, I tried to make sure I got every single color variation from every scene where the lightsaber is ignited. Except the one where Obi-Wan's saber turns purple. I'm not even going there...

You'd think even after spending all that time and $$ remastering it for the 20th and DVD they'd get around to actually fixing that crap.

There are a coupe of scenes that you can see the flashy thingy used for filming. [xx(]

There's a website out there devoted to picking apart these discrepancies.

Edit: He even points out how they swap colors during combat and shows how they sometimes randomly swap sabers all together.[:0]

You mean thelightsaber.com? Yeah, I've seen that. Great site; it's where I first found about all the color-changing in the Falcon scene.

Yoiaholic

As far as colors go in the movies remember they are just painting over the existing frame (originals at least the pre-quels were digitally done and therefore much cleaner colors). Thats the reason they needed to change the blade in ROTJ as was pointed out. Since the background was constantly changing you can tell in the poorly roto-scoped shots.

So no matter what the sabers are going to look different based on the setting.

The funny thing is that it didnt just "flash" green. It was green for the entire shot!

On a side note, I should have the Episode I Blue screencaps up sometime today or tomorrow, and Episode III after that (I don't have the Episode II DVD... [:(]). I'll start working on the Green pics soon after.

EDIT:
Should I even try to do the green pics? They'll all be green LED, anyway. The only variation will be between the different bins.

when you do rots be sure to get the scene where anakin is pushing obi wans lightsaber onto him but then the saber changes into anakins. it is pretty funny to watch

Honestly as big of a detail guy as Lucas is I really can’t believe he let that kind of stuff get into the movies.

Some of the mistakes on the newer movies, especially, make me think he did them on purpose to give fans some "easter eggs" to find and maybe film students something to pick apart. Does that sound plausible? It's just an idea.

When the new DVD's come out you can add white with filters to the list. Actually, I think there are still some cuts in the latest DVD versions where Vaders/Bens sabers are completely uncolored. If I remember right, its when the doors are closing on Vader just before everyone escapes from the Death Star.

The problem with me doing the Red and Red-Orange blades is that I can't tell the difference from the pics on the site. They look too similar to me. If someone can give me some good examples of both, then I'll go ahead and do a guide for the Red blades.

EDIT-
Oh, BTW, Xwing (if you're listening), you might wanna index this, as I know that a lot of people ask all the time about the movie-accurate colors.

Added AOTC screencaps.

Somehow, most of my TPM section got deleted in the process of adding AOTC. It'll take a little bit to fix that...

EDIT:
Fixed.

Like the altered title now says, the Saga is complete. I've added Revenge of the Sith to the main post. Somebody sticky this thread. :D

if you wanted to get super technical you could go with the different lighting in different situations change the color, or different people creating thier lightsabers would have different colors because of the crystal placement....or you could say that the editors messed up! i like the royal blue pics.

How many lightsaber colors are there? ONLY From the movies?? Isnt it, BLUE, GREEN, RED??? I could have sworn there was a yellow one somewhere on Attack of the Clones but my wife swears I am wrong.

JUST in the movies, which colors are there?

I agree with you to an extent chuck, there are some green lightsabers during the geonosis arena battle that look yellowish, but alas, there are no yellow ones.
