Just thought i would ask... does anyone know how these are made?
i saw on ebay a sideshow vader with a "custom cathode saber" that lit up VERY nicely. then it got me thinking "hey, i bet with all the saber folks, there has to be a way to do this..."
also there is a luke ANH figure coming out in japan soon that has a light up saber. wonder how that works?

so, how can this be done? i know pretty much nothing about cathodes. but would LED be possible in such a tiny hilt?

i've got a sideshow ROTJ luke and older medicom vader just dying for light up sabers.

I'm assuming it just has a small LED in the hilt, similar to what we use for accent LEDs. Thinkgeek has a mini-lightsaber kit that is somewhat similar in design to the ebay item. Check for their Mini Lightsaber Tech Lab if you're interested in seeing the parts.

If it's an actual cathode system, then it's not lit by an LED. It would likely be a cold cathode.

Google is your friend.

Look up "cold cathode tube lighting"

How cold cathodes work:

I want to help, and I've been dying to use this for a while.

Let me Google that for you. (http://lmgtfy.com/?q=cold+cathode+tube+lighting)

You only get to use that once.

Now, you're done. ;)
