Ok so for my 4th MHS saber Im doing a mix between Lukes ANH/ESB saber. They both have thing I like and things I dont like. So Ill just take the things I like and put them into this MHS graflex Replica.

Here is a preview... more to come in a few weeks.

Hey guys its not a major up date but here it is.

I like my sabers to have a brushed aluminum look, so I use a scotch bright pad by 3M like this.

http://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff512/gregorybear1986/Snapbucket/ED5A2D94-orig.jpg

I then wrap my hand around the part and the pad and start rotating it, it makes a real nice brushed look.

So I tapped off the area not painting and this is it.

http://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff512/gregorybear1986/Snapbucket/D30264E3-orig.jpg

I then painted the pin area and the small rectangles near the set screw hole. I painted and baked for a hour on 200 degrees. and this is the finished product after cleaning up the overspray.

here is the box I will use. I plan on making a lever to simulate the one on the real graflex.

http://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff512/gregorybear1986/Snapbucket/FDB7C2CC-orig.jpg

These are the parts I have sofar. I have the grips, the blade holder and the control box. I will order everything I need on friday, except the PC that will come later.

I also plan on doing the bunnie ears, and emmiter tomorrow so when it is done I will take more pics, thanks for following.

Looking good so far. You might want to conform the base of the ears to the emitter, close those little gaps at the edges.

I will try the metal is springy lol idk why though.

Nice so far! About the emitter though... is that an insert? Does that reduce the diameter of the blade a little? Can't quite tell how that's all attached, but I like it. I wonder what the rest will look like...

:)

Xanatos1986
09-04-2011, 11:55 PM
It is attached but gorilla glue/ jb weld. I ordered a very tiny button head screw to have it screwed on and all the epoxy so it's not going anywhere lol. No the blade still fits just fine I used a 1 inche metal
Pole as a guide for the parts. I think it does come togeather rather nicely.

ok so its been awhile so i would not consider this a double post. I order the parts to complete the hilt except for electronics. So, as soon as I have the parts which will be Monday I will put it togeather and take more pics. I plan on a crystal chamber with 2 crystals, a rebel royal blue, and a PC with a luke anh/esb font. I have a really good Idea for the pommel recharge port... so if it works I hope others will do it or give them ideas. So thanks for following this thread if you are. I will update this monday night.

For my 200th post i figured I would update this build thread. So I got my parts today a Pommel 11, a insert thats threaded for a recharge port, 5 inch exstension, a 3 inch exstension, double male adaptor, a black box card, and some chassis discs. Well when i assembled the saber, it looked to long with the 3 inch exstension so I had a spare 2 inch and tried that and it looked better. well here are the pics, I dont have the red button or the glass eye screws on because they are on my starkiller lol. but my new ones should be here any day now. please let me know what you think so far. I do have the grips just not istalled yet.

lookin good as usual! i love your style and approach to difficult builds. you make what seems difficult appear very do-able. well done. you are easily one of my favorite DIY builders.
did you use a template for those bunny ears? something looks off just a bit, like maybe a little too wide? i mean by like 3mm. not much but enough to notice?
maybe figure out how some of the smiths do the "touch plate activation"? would be cool to use two of the traces on the circuit board!

Xanatos1986
09-27-2011, 08:11 AM
you are onto something, no i didnt use a template, on the ears, i free handed them so thats why they are probably off lol. I wouldnt even know where to start with touch plate activation.... you know the lamps that you can touch to turn on? i wish i could figure that out and use that in this build, but untill I figure that or the touch plate ill put 2 switches in the control box like in my starkiller build.

I was looking at the the pics but the bottom pic makes them look wide and short as to the the picture above it looks fine, so maybe its a optical illusion? lol anyway thanks

Looks great so far. Can't wait to see it finished. As for the touch switch, that would be quite an interesting feature to have. Perhaps, if you had a saber board in it that could be activated by a momentary switch, you could figure out how to have your finger bridge a connection to act like a momentary switch. Don't know how that would work, but it sounds like something that I'll enjoy looking into. If I do find anything, I'll report back here.

Xanatos1986
09-27-2011, 09:43 AM
Yeah I think that would be cool too. I've also bee thinking of a bubble strip and take out 2 bubbles but I don't like the buble strip I don't know why...

09-27-2011, 10:40 AM
Man that is nice! I'm not going to lie, this is inspiring me to try and make this once I'm done with my current project. If you don't mind me asking, how did you create the emitter ring and
"bunny ears"?

Xanatos1986
09-27-2011, 12:57 PM
the bunnie ears are free handed, but simple just measue how wide you want them and the how tall, once you measure the tallness, double it and add about 1/2 inch for the base, and the emitter ring I did the same thing as the ears, and the ring i cut a piece of sheet metal wraped it around some 1 inch pipe jb welded it togeather and now just waiting to get a small bitton head so it for sure stays, but i dont think its going anywhere anytime soon. If this ispires you go ahead and use it. IMO i think it looks good, and pretty close to graflex, its a graflex on a budget lol.

I wouldnt even know where to start with touch plate activation.... you know the lamps that you can touch to turn on? i wish i could figure that out and use that in this build, but untill I figure that or the touch plate...
There's a thread floating around in the depths, that teaches exactly what you're wanting to do.

i tried looking, i found tons of sabers with touch plate activation but cant find a tut oh well if it bugs me enough ill ask for help lol

KuroChou

"touch switch"
Pages 4, 5, and 6.

When I say floating in the depths or the darkness, I mean it quite literally. Very old threads.

[edit] I also went ahead and did the real meat of the work for you on this one

I literally typed in touch plate activation and got one page... So sorry that you busted your ass and I didnt ask for it, but thank you. It's not that big a deal to me to have visible switches. Thank you though. Please don't seem
Mad because you looked, you took it upon yourself to find it. If your not being rude then I'm sorry I just took it that way... Thank you

Sorry for being rude, it's ok and thank you for the help. Much appreciated man.

KuroChou
09-27-2011, 08:24 PM
It's really not a big deal. I'm sorry if that came out standoffish. I just knew the exact thread from memory, and knew that it would show up with proper use of the search box.
I really didn't mind looking it up for you, because I was curious where the thread in question disappeared to. I didn't find it on my first try either, but there were a lot of relevant posts in older threads, so I posted those first, and thought I might as well post a link to the tut thread after I found it.

Xanatos1986
09-27-2011, 09:55 PM
ok kuro glad we cleared that up lol. i was confused because i seen alot of LDMs post with sabers that had touch plate activation, with small momentary tactile switches under the card or whatever. Im assuming the plate is very flexable, anywho all I nee is the graflex knobs and the outside is done. I have them ordered and if its like last time I orderd they should be here any day now. Here are some new pics up.

Oh i forgot, I have a strip of textured mylar tape, but that will go on dead last lol idk why but it will. enjoy and the electronics will take some time, ill buy eveything except the PC in about 3 weeks, and then the PC in another 3 weeks. Thanks for following.

NICE!
grips made a huge difference. gotta love the gorilla glue! hahaha
how goes the clamp lever?
i was just going to buy one and modifiy it for use as a kill key. thats why i've been searching for a smaller RCP. ;)
as for the bubble strip, i dont know why but to me they just look VERY original trilogy. gives it more of a canon look for me.
you going with a D ring or covertech?

Xanatos1986
09-29-2011, 08:21 AM
d ring for sure, im working on a deal with a guy from fx, im getting the lever from him. my kill key will be in the pommel

wish the emitter section was longer and threaded into the lower section behind the clamp part.
to make it more authentic looking.

I think once its all done and things are the way I want them Im going to weld it tight and grind it down and smooth it out.

It's pretty good for a DIY graflex build :)

But i have to ask... why not buy a graflex replica and start from there? Is it for the DIY satisfaction?

Xanatos1986
10-15-2011, 06:23 PM
Kind of... And cheaper plus, I think I'm proving anything can be made of mhs lol. I like the graflex style but can't afford one so this is the next best thing lol. Thanks for the positive support.

thejedilestat
10-15-2011, 10:22 PM
looks good but i wouldent weld it thats just going to make life harder when the next BETTER BRIGHTER LED comes out and you wanna upgrade. this saber gets better every time i pop in to have a look at it :) thumbs up to you yet again. with the switch some people have put the Aux switch behind the clamp lever but you should be able to put both in the clamp well under it and have 2 long rods in the card to hit the switch inside the mhs saber.

but idk i have loads of photos that would help me explane this but im on my wifes laptop at the moment so im sorry.

Xanatos1986
10-16-2011, 12:33 AM
Cool thanks I will not weld it lol this saber might end up on fx for well you know, when it's done. That's if I land this graflex I'm looking at somewhere. Pics would be good just pm when is good for you.

LDM has some nice pics in his build threads of his touch plate activation. You might have to look at an Obi saber but it's still a graflex clamp.

Hi Xanatos1986 I am new to the forums and looking to build something very similar to want you are making. I was wondering if you could send me or list the parts you have used so far as I am looking to make an Anakin ROTS light saber for my self. Keep up the great work and look forward to seeing the finished product.

Hi guys and girls it's been awhile sorry, just a update, I ordered all needed parts except the PC that will be ordered in a few weeks. Thanks for the support. Hilt parts are, custom bunny ears, graflex knobs, graflex clamp, 5 inche extension, 2 inch exstension, blade holder 20, double male adaptor, and pommel 11. Hope that helps Adam.

what up! i am still stuck on activation buttons and recharge port solution inside my box too.
feh.
i will get it figured out someday... im not starting any new sabers until i finish the two and a half i have not finished.

i hope to get a graflex (rep?) or FX Luke to convert one of these days, but this is a very nice alternative and the price is certainly better!

way to go on the clamp, too! looks more accurate.
