Is there no adapter that will fit the Luke Return of the Jedi green saber, or does the Mace Windu adapter fit in both sabers?

I asked about a conversion kit for this in another post. Tim is working on one for the Luke, as well as Mauls. It'll just be some time before they're finished up.

Last I heard Ultra was still using the stock blade and holder on the Luke saber

On his Luke ROTJ eBay listing it showed a metal blade holder - I saw it the other day.

Ultra has added a metal blade holder to the luke MR, must have been a very recent addition[;)]

Hmm... I see it. He also replaced the Vader and has a limited Anakin one...

Tim has lost a steady stream of bussiness there.[:(] Ultra's only using the Mace one now.

I've just bought myself a LED converted Luke saber, i'm a little worried as i've found its still using the 6 battery pack, when all i read is sabers on 4 battries, can the LED handle this power?

Also can anyone advise me on how many i could use running this saber, as i'd like to add Corbin's driver to it once i've reduced the power pack size.

Thanks

xwingband

It's 6AA but only 4.5V. The problem would be that you'd have to make a whole new battery solution to gain space and meet Corbin's requirements.

how could you convert a luke rotj without a conversion kit? can you just buy a heatsink, led, lens & holder and make it work?

xwingband
01-01-2007, 08:43 PM
Now that Tim offers a custom heatsink, yup! It's still not as nice as a metal holder, but it's entirely possible.

the last pm i got from him is he was goin to have the rotj ones done in about a month. Has anyone done the turorial for it yet? it all just unscrews like the mhs stuff (only a little harder to get apart. If anyone needs it here is one, I used it and no problems.

Yes! Perfect time since I just messed up my Luke blade!

Just wondering tho wher would the screw be for the blade? I allready had to drill and tap one in the neck because of a woblly blade.

Thanks

Yes it's just going to be more work on your part.

If I were to do one now with the heatsink I'd stop the twisting problem with some small 6-32 or 4-40 set screws. If you can wait though the kit he's working on will fix that problem.

Hi there,
I've almost finished converting a luke ep VI for a customer, a pro sword fighter who needs a practice / spare saber. Unmounting went well, then I made a custom blade holder in aluminium to be sure that heat is properly dissipated by the hilt.
I've just wired the luxeon and... mmmm... forgot that the 6 pack is actually 3//3 to get more current over time... Even with fresh new batteries, 3AA in series is a little under the forward voltage of a luxeon III (green)
I've measured a current < 300 mA flowing in the LED, 1/3 of the expected current, it's not gonna blind anyone... MR electronics just sucks...
Fine for a spare saber, but I guess this customer will soon upgrade for a Crystal Focus core
I'll post pics of this conversion soon!

found a partial workaround : I short-circuited the two diodes where VA and VB (the 2 halves of 3 AA batteries supply voltage) to gain .7 V in order to maximize input voltage of the luxeon. This is however not what state of the art in electronics will recommend since the diodes are used to avoid one set of batteries discharging into the other since no battery is equivalent to another, it's never balanced. But this is a problem really only when the saber is off and not used for a certain time, I will recommend the customer to remove the battery pack from the saber when he's not using it.

I doubt... copper is expensive! I just bought some for a saber...

A 1"ID and 1.5"OD Aluminum tube was the same price as a 1.5" OD and 1.46" ID Copper pipe! WTH! It was about $20 each for 1' long.

Lord Maul
01-14-2007, 10:54 AM
or you could get the fx sabers copper upgrade kit. that looks good but i don't know how well the stickers last :(

I didn't nessesarily mean he would put copper on there but atleast make it so we don't use the existing piece.

Maul: didn't they get those from Jedisabersmith?

no, JSS got them from fx sabers

the bad thing about the copper though is it tarnishes way to easy, i have a whole hilt made out of copper and after you handle it a bit it tarnishes over night.
