Hey all,
This is my first post and will be my first lightsaber build. I am hoping to build a lightsaber in exact replication of the one Obi-Wan uses in ROTS. I have found a thread on this website that lists the following parts necessary:

bh 8
ribbed groove choke combo
2 or 3 extension..if you go with the 2 extension you have to drill through the threads ..can be done but carefully so you don't mess them up
mhs gear
pommel 3 v2
box 7
either black or natural card

Will this list make me a exact replication (non-working of course) of Kenobi's saber. Unfortunately, IDK what "bh 8" means, or "mhs gear" or "box 7" or black or natural card".... and is it better to do 2 or 3 extensions? Which one will make it look exactly like Kenobi's?!

I'm sorry for all the questions, and for being a noob. However, I can answer lots of questions about cars, bodybuilding, political science and history. Hopefully one day I'll be extremely knowledgeable here, everyone has gotta start somewhere though.

Thanks,
Chip.

There's a "Store" button on the navigation bar. Go there and see what the parts are like.

And no, using MHS parts you can't get an accurate Obi-ROTS. The neck will be much thicker than the real prop, and you need to get some greeblies elsewhere to the side of the clamp, if you really want screen accuracy.

That list is good for an MHS Obi ROTS.

While it is true you won't have an EXACT replica, you WILL have a saber you can easily upgrade, and not worry about duelling with.
You will need to get some parts powder coated for correct coloration though.

bh8 = blade holder #8
mhs gear = geared extension
box 7 = well, box #7

It would also be a 2" or 3" extension in question, not 2 extensions or 3 of them.

It sounds like you've done just enough reading to find a partial parts list, now you need to do a lot more to see what else goes into a saber of this style, and how all the hilt parts and electronics go together.

If you use the MHS Builder (and READ ALL THE STICKIES & look at images of what you want) you'll get something like this (a after a bit of bit of Photoshop for clarity & color):

The placement of the color is personal preference and looks right to my eye. Those parts would have to be custom powder coated or painted & baked by you.

You could also center Box 7 on the 3" Extension but then, to me, it starts to look tail heavy.

This Internal View is part of the MHS Builder also. There's a panel button that does it automatically for you.

Actually, use the 2" section. The clamp must begin where the gear ends for maximum accuracy.

Created a layer for the color overlay, use the Rectangular Marquee tool to fit each section I want to color, use the Paint Bucket tool (with the appropriate color) to fill the Marquee areas, then adjust the Opacity to the density I like (in this case 65%), then Flatten Image. Easy-peasy! ;)
