If I use 2 protected 14500s in a battery holder, with a p4 red on a MR board would a 6.8ohm 5watt resistor be ok? thanks

You shouldn't need a resistor if you are using a MR board.

Depends. The newer red P4s are known to blow when driven unresistored from an MR board.

You need a resistor, but I feel like the one you have described has a bit too much resistance, I'm not an expert though.

I understand that the MR board cant handle a full 7.2 or 7.4 volts... I don't want to use a recharge port. Or more 2 batteries.

with the MR boards, stick with 1 Li-Ion cell and if you're using a P4 red, use a 1 ohm 2 Watt resistor on the LED leads.
