what do you mean by "remote controlled"
like turning it on and off from a distance or something else

remote uses a wire, so just run a really long cord that is hooked up to the 2 wires you would have for the switch in the hilt, and hook that switch at the end of a really long cord. andd there ya go.

now, radio control, is a different animal.

One easy way would be to use a ac/dc converter and plug it into a wall plug with a clapper hooked to it lol.. clap on clap off

that too, would work. any way you go bout doin it, just tie in the extended wiring to the 2 wires that go to your switch, and you got it.

Once again Tim has the right Idea, but here is an option to make it Voice Controlled, I use one of these to control the track lighting behind the Wall Unit in the Den.

Across the room I'm not sure about but if you want one sans switch... magnetic reed switches I believe. I remember reading about this idea for sabers on ASAP. They got the idea from Trekkies and their tricorders.

That one depends on if the remote feels like it.

You might want to try reprogramming it. If not sometimes a simple hit will jolt it into working.

thanks for all your jedi wisdom, but isn't there a jedi out there who can help me make my el saber 'radio remote controlled'.

If you look into the home security stuff you should find a remote control for a electrical outlet designed for turning a light on and off remotely. Use a ac-dc power supply to power your saber and plug it into the light control module. That is the simplest way to get remote control.

you might consider a motion sensor and keep the sensing unit near your cameraman and have him trigger it when necessary

Yeah, that made my mind jog though... how about a motion sensor (or like a laser trip, sort of like those on garage doors) that turns it on as you enter the room. This all pretty much goes with a wall port as I see it...

Other than an actual remote I don't see much of a way to make this... and a physical remote would be lame. You have to get it and you might as well just walk over and turn it on if you don't already have it on you.[xx(]

x-wings got a great idea, and probably the best, the motion sensor. it could be wired tot he switch wires. maybe look for one of those cheap toys with a sensor in it, and scavenge it out.

Another thing you could do is if you have a switched outlet change out the standard toggle for a Motion Wall Switch. Just an Idea, also check Radio Shack they used to carry a Key Chain size Ac Remote unit with a wall outlet Module.[:)]

Find an old (small) TV, and gut the remote switch out of that.

Hey that is a great Idea, why didn't I think of that, do you remember the old RF Remotes they used to have, I had one when I was in the 8th grade there was a little motor that actually turned the Channel Knob.[:p]
